That's it. We are once again done. He is an insufferable ass and misogynist.

I'm talking about Chris Matthews. For years, in our house, he was persona non grata. Since Trump has been in office, politics has become something of a slow motion train wreck. As a result, news became must see TV. We found ourselves watching Matthews along with the rest of the MSNBC lineup.

Watching Matthews, we saw what turned us off before. It was his way of giving far more face time to his male guests than his female guests. Then there is his speed speaking, even when his guests (more often the women) are speaking. He tends to ignore them to say whatever seems to pop up in his mind, and what he says more often than not adds nothing to the conversation,

Tonight, we both agreed, was a Tourette's event too far.

His guests were Steve Cohen (D-Memphis, TN and a good guy), Peter Baker of the NYT, and Natasha Bertrand of The Atlantic (and *at least* as well informed as the other two). Cohen and Baker each got a well spoken intro, with their names enunciated. Bertrand became "Natash Bertrah".

Cohen and Baker had much to say and were given the time, largely without interruption, to say it. Not so for "Natash" Her first turn had three false starts, with her visibly taking a breath to start speaking, only to let it go as Matthews took her time to say what he wanted to say - and in his usual form, add little to the topic.

When she was finally allowed to speak, she was interrupted rudely, as if what she had to say wasn't worth hearing.

Each guest got three turns, but she got far less voice time.

While this story might be seen as anecdotal, it is, in fact, part of a pattern.

And is he a misogynist? Obviously not like Trump. But effectively, he is, as women almost always, are given less time and less overt respect, than his male guests.

Matthews clearly won't change, so we must. Change the channel, that is. We'll give CNN's Erin Burnett a shot.

Ms. Bertrand is very intelligent. guillaumeb Apr 2019 #4
Indeed she is. Very often the most well informed person on any panel in which she's participating. Stinky The Clown Apr 2019 #8

They're FOX and CBS, respectively.

Matthews is a first generation asshole.
