My family has seen this before. My dad told me about it. Until now I haven’t.

The real upper class in the South would never debase themselves to be in such a plebeian group as the Klan. Knew they were trash. But were more than happy to use them. And exploit them by ginning up racial resentment and fear. And use them to keep their black workers in check to keep their income secure.

This is exactly what LBJ meant when he said he had lost the south for two generations for Democrats. Unfortunately, it’s been longer than that. It takes more than two generations to get rid of the racism we have.
