9-Year-Old Playing in Her Yard Suffers Broken Skull After Car Plows Into Her

snip

“(The car) hit her head-on, and it didn’t just hit her, it knocked her through a brick wall,” the family’s attorney L. Chris Stewart said. “It is an absolute miracle that she survived this.”

According to the Associated Press, LaDerihanna appeared lifeless after the crash, and as her family frantically went to her side, a man who came to help and the girl’s 12-year-old brother started CPR. LaDerihanna’s father, Derryl Holmes, picked her up and drove her to the hospital, “keeping his hand on her heart to make sure she was breathing,” Burton told the AP.

“I drove with one hand the whole way,” Holmes told the AJC, “and I made sure she had a heartbeat the whole way there.”

“She’s so tiny. She’s only 45 to 50 pounds,” Burton said. “I just don’t know how she made it.”

The family’s attorney said LaDerihanna is so badly injured she’ll have to learn to walk again. A GoFundMe has been set up to help the family cover expenses.

Her government should provide that without strings or reservations. GoFundMe should be for bells and whistles, not basic care.

And of course the "max" depends on what degree of reptile influence the insurance industry has in the victim's state of residence.

She's there, and then she's gone.
That driver was moving awfully fast for going through a neighborhood!

... & hit 2 vehicles in my driveway, then sped away.

If any of us had been in the front yard we could have been killed.

I'm not a religious person but I pray this child fully recovers.

I'm optimistic because the human brain is an amazing thing. I had a traumatic brain injury years ago & I remember weeks laying on the couch re-learning the names of things around me. Wall, ceiling, window, lamp, rug, chair, etc. It look me about 3 weeks to remember what "baseboard" was called.

In the end, I recovered. My brain just had to re-establish the connections to my memory.

I wish her the best!

She will heal as well. Two, a niece and nephew fell. Severe injuries and recovered. Took some time, yet they did.

LaDerihanna is improving, suspect has been arrested.

The suspect says he was a victim too. Says someone tried
to hijack his car. The little girl's parents don't buy it.

I have been busy and hadn't had time to check. I am glad they caught the suspect and that she is doing okay. She will learn to walk again, she will.
