So did Pelosi get it right on Biden's touchy-feely nature?

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Yonnie3 (a host of the General Discussion forum).

Agree or disagree?

"I don't think it's disqualifying...I think that it's important for the vice president and others to understand is it isn't what you intended, it's how it was received," Pelosi said at Politico's Playbook breakfast on Tuesday.

She added of Biden's response to the criticism over his behavior toward women, "To say 'I'm sorry that you were offended' is not an apology." Instead she said it should be: "'I'm sorry that I invaded your space,' because people have different perceptions of appropriate communication."

Pelosi said and her family have known Biden for a long time, saying even her grandchildren love him. She defended his approach to women as simply being "affectionate."

"He's an affectionate person to children to senior citizens to everyone. That's just the way he is," said Pelosi. She conceded, however, that Biden "has to understand in the world that were in now, that people'[s] space is important to them and what's important is how they receive -- not necessarily how you intended it."

Every guy knows, or damn well SHOULD know, you don't plant a big, slow kiss to the back of a woman's head in that situation. Sorry, but that's pretty much common knowledge in this day and age of #MeToo!!

we are not an affectionate enough society. I think in general we should be much more tactile. It hurts me to see little children shying away from hugging and saying things like "you're invading my space", even to their own grandparents at times.

I'm not one to broach someone else's space at all, don't get me wrong, but sometimes I see extended families from other cultures and how exuberant they are with their gestures and physicality, and I feel jealous of that. I think hugging is positive and mood lifting, and I think we're at a place right now where we've gone too far in the other direction.

and consider carefully what they have to say, has led to incredible dismay that they are equating innocent contact with horrific sexual harassment or assault. They are doing damage to an important movement, to our society, and to a very good man.

I've evolved the past week and this staunch feminist is longer credulous with respect to Flores' claims. I am now ANGRY--and NOT at Joe Biden!

That is pretty spot on I think. Joe is an emotional guy. He seems to hug everyone, is a close talker, holds a handshake longer than normal. Men, woman, old, young, black, white, hispanic. But I can understand how some, women in particular, could find that weird or creepy if they are not used to it.
