*** The Mueller Team Strikes Back -- with new leaks ***

According to the WA Post, the evidence on obstruction was "alarming" and "significant" and "much more acute" than Barr's report suggested.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/limited-information-barr-has-shared-about-russia-investigation-frustrated-some-on-muellers-team/2019/04/03/c98e8a02-567a-11e9-814f-e2f46684196e_story.html?fbclid=IwAR1zEWXeQkHhJMXm_rz7vQpS2aQVQuUjxhpfgzwCQT9tXXuj1EQGn989-jk&utm_term=.41f0e030724a

“There was immediate displeasure from the team when they saw how the attorney general had characterized their work instead,” according one U.S. official briefed on the matter.

Summaries were prepared for different sections of the report, with a view that they could made public, the official said.

The report was prepared “so that the front matter from each section could have been released immediately — or very quickly,” the official said. “It was done in a way that minimum redactions, if any, would have been necessary, and the work would have spoken for itself.”

Mueller’s team assumed the information was going to be made available to the public, the official said, “and so they prepared their summaries to be shared in their own words — and not in the attorney general’s summary of their work, as turned out to be the case.”

How can they conclude that there wasn't a conspiracy with Russia? There is a difference in my mind between proven innocence and insufficient evidence to press charges.

I mean, ask your local Right Wing nut about whether they think OJ Simpson was innocent. At least OJ's case went to court.

These should have been released on March 22. We really don't need Mr. Barr's summary (which he now says it is not a summary). Nixon tried these with the transcripts of his tapes, and it was a shameful act of hiding the reality of what was on those tapes.

Today's equation: Mueller Report = Nixon's Tapes; Barr "Summary" = Nixon's transcripts

Mr. Barr: Just what are you are trying to do? It won't work, you know. Release Mueller's summaries tomorrow morning ASAP, and then you can hand over the full report in mid-April "if not sooner."

Nothing has changed from Watergate.

For those who don't know, once Alexander Butterfield revealed their was an Oval Office taping system, there was tremendous pressure on Nixon to release the tapes. Instead, Nixon ordered transcripts produced that left out parts and described others as "inaudible" all designed to make him look like an innocent bystander. Prior to that Nixon tried just to have Dem Senator John Stennis listen to them because Stennis was known to make information disappear, for lack of a better word.

Not to speak for the other poster, but I fail to trust the justice system to deal with corrupt officials. And that failure to trust turns to outright cynical disbelief that it will do anything meaningful about corrupt Righties.

I will get excited if and when the report is released AND it has damning evidence. Because I believe Mueller is a righty. Who worked in the Bush II administration. And I dont believe that type of influence would leave even the best of humans untainted. I expect there to be shades of grey in this report, enough to attempt to make it believable to the masses, but I also expect him to have scrupulously made sure there are NO smoking guns to be found in his report or supporting materials. I assert we have been handed some scapegoats but no meaningful convictions or information.

And if Trump manages to stay out of prison long enough, I expect him and a freshly pardoned Manafort to be having drinks at maralago in the not too distant future, chuckling about how the plebes believed all trumps "dont throw me into that briar patch" song and show about Mueller, rosenstein, et al.

Ever since I have had zero confidence that people with money and power will ever pay for their crimes, no matter how bad. The punishment part of "Justice" almost applies completely to those without money or power. Manafort got a tiny sentence for the amount of felonies he committed because the judge equated being rich with being a good person.

Defeatest thoughts.....sure, maybe, but I have no reason to think the ones who deserve to be punished will live anything but a rich, super comfortable life for themselves and their children. I look at life as a poor person looking up and seeing very clearly the two systems of "justice" that we have in the US. Give me a reason to see things differently.

Fri Apr 5, 2019, 12:22 AM

Actually quite the opposite.

If we want good government. Clean government. Justice of any sort.. We will have to work 10 times as hard as our opposition. And we need to walk into the fight with that firmly in mind. The system is NOT fair, and if we ever start to expect it to be, and only work twice as hard.. we will once again lose. Thats where defeatism comes in, unexpected loss that should have been predictable that makes people lose hope. We HAVE to put in the extreme effort to expect to win. And we need to be determined, not be surprised and dismayed when we find the system working against us.

Someday it will be different. But today is not that day.

'John Newton Mitchell (September 15, 1913 – November 9, 1988) was the 67th Attorney General of the United States (1969–1972) under President Nixon.

On February 21, 1975, Mitchell, who was represented by the criminal defense attorney William G. Hundley, was found guilty of conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and perjury and sentenced to two and a half to eight years in prison for his role in the Watergate break-in and cover-up, which he dubbed the "White House horrors." As a result of the conviction, Mitchell was disbarred from the practice of law in New York.'

48. Mitchell was not AG during Watergate
Thu Apr 4, 2019, 08:26 AM
Apr 2019

He was Nixon's AG until early 1972 when he became Chairman of Nixon's Committee to Re-Elect the President (or CREEP, as it is better known as). This happened several months before the break-in.

He resigned as Chairman 13 days after the Watergate burglary "to spend more time with his wife." In reality, as AG, he effectively authorized the money for the break-in and was forced out in an attempt to cut off White House liability for Watergate.

I don't believe an AG can be impeached. S/he can indeed be indicted. For example, Richard Kliendienst, who took over from Mitchell, was forced out by pleading to lying to Congress regarding the ITT merger antitrust investigation.

You spend 2 years 2 months working on digging deep, put all that effort into researching, sniffing out evil, write a massive report - only to have some spineless jellyfish censor it and reduce it to a 4 page 'nothing to see here' summary.
Then Trump misinterpreting the misinterpreted report summary. A double coat of white wash, in short.
Honestly, you couldn't make this up as a work of fiction!

You'd be mighty miffed.

You'd be mighty tempted to complain, and bypass such obstruction.

Mueller should be in public view, stating (understating?) that the Barr summary is not a true summary of the report.

Failing that, a few USB keys with a single 300 page document on it delivered anonymously to some politicians, or newspapers.
