I heard that during an older administration that the US AG was indicted. If it was done once, it can be repeated.
Americans have a right to that full report with congress getting it first.

(9,461 posts)been an Ethics in Government bill passed in 1983 that legalized the process. That bill/law was allowed to lapse December 31, 1998. Beginning in 1999 we really didn't have a law for special prosecutors. 'AFAIK the difference is: Congress previously had oversight of the process and the report went directly to them. Now, it all falls under the DOJ and most of the power is given to the AG including the report.
Remember, this was all done post-Ken Star report and Congress was trying to find a way to de-politicize the process. Part of the reason the entire Congress doesn't get the whole report is because there were so many irrelevant things in the Clinton report. Most of them would never have been released had it not been for political gain. Not to mention, a lot of people are harmed when they are identified as a potential criminal in a report without being able to defend themselves, especially when charges aren't filed. It's clear Congress thought the AG would be above this level of politics, but they didn't see the Trump era coming.

(18,625 posts)In the starr report the partisan investigator got to release everything.
In the non partisan Mueller report Republicans get to withold everything.
Somethings not right here.

(9,461 posts)like Barr passed through the Senate.
One of the issues we have is that there isn't any precedent for releasing the report under the new rules. It may have to go to court, or they can find another way to get it. This is all virgin territory.
