President Trump says he will delay closing the border with Mexico for a year

President Donald Trump said Thursday he would delay closing the border with Mexico for a year, apparently backtracking on his earlier threat to seal off the southern border as early as this week.

Trump told reporters at the White House that he would give Mexico a year to halt the flow of illegal drugs coming into the United States. If the drugs don’t stop, he said, the U.S. will impose tariffs on Mexican autos. If that doesn’t work, Trump said, then the U.S. would close the U.S.-Mexican border.

“That will be a very powerful incentive,” he said.

Trump insisted he wasn't bluffing.

He thinks he’s too clever to be seen for what he really is by us. His supporters though are heaving a giant sigh of relief that now we can’t hold his fucking feet to the fire.

If he tripped and took a face plant on stage he would jump up and claim he meant to do that and his base would scream in joy.

President Donald Trump on Thursday backed off his threat to close the southern border this week, instead giving Mexico a one-year warning to stop the flow of drugs and apprehend migrants and saying that if it didn't, he would close the border or place new tariffs on cars produced in Mexico ...

The president also acknowledged that his threats to impose auto tariffs could be curbed by his own U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade deal that has a provision preventing auto tariffs ...

Over the past week, the president has threatened to shut down the southern border but tamped down his rhetoric after Republicans and administration officials warned him of the potential economic ramifications. The United States and Mexico trade about $1.7 billion in goods daily, according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Still, in the event the president decides to shut down the border National Economic Adviser Larry Kudlow said the administration is working on plans to exempt commerical trade ...

We're planning a plan that will the close the border without affecting $1.7 billion in daily cross-border trade!

"Look at my Great Achievement in opening up our southern border ports-of-entry to profitable trade! this will be a huge stimulus compared to Obama's sagging failing economy."

somehow it just seems natural.
