The GOP never wanted government to work but in the past they mostly left the bureaucrats that did the real work alone. This administration has been dismantling the entire structure and chasing off even the most essential and loyal government employees.

This is going to make it really hard on the next Democratic administration to rebuild. The people who knew how thing worked, the policies that were effective in the past, and the various procedures that allow government agencies to work together will mostly be gone. It will take at least two terms to begin putting things back together.
