Trump rejects giving Dems tax returns, citing audit

Trump said Wednesday that he won’t release his tax returns while he’s under audit, setting the stage for a standoff among the White House, the Treasury Department and House Democrats.

“I would love to give them, but I’m not going to do it while I’m under audit,” Trump told reporters as he departed the White House for a trip to Texas.

Democrats on the House Ways and Means Committee set a Wednesday deadline for the Treasury Department to turn over six years' worth of Trump’s personal and business tax returns.

The agency has given no indication that it will meet that deadline, and Trump has insisted he will not voluntarily give up his returns. He has cited an ongoing audit, the same reason he gave when he broke with years of precedent and declined to release his returns during the 2016 presidential campaign.

I heard today, because it is considered harassment. So trump claims his 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 returns are all under audit? He's such a liar.

the irs audits all returns of sitting presidents and vice presidents.

more generally, they can audit a return from 3 years ago.

and in any audit, once they find a problem, my understanding is that they can go back an additional 10 years.

but of course, no audit has anything to do with donald fraud releasing or not releasing his taxes. it's a completely irrelevant non-excuse that for some reason people just nod their heads and go, oh ok, and let him get away with yet another completely outrageous thing that makes him look even more like a criminal.

Congress needs to go to court and the courts need to value the rule of law over the rule of Donald fraud.

It remains to be seen what will happen....
