Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Wednesday that Herman Cain should be confirmed to the Federal Reserve Board despite mounting Republican opposition.
I don't know Cain very well, but I have every reason to believe the president supports him and feels strongly, so yes, I would think he should be confirmed, Mnuchin said during a Wednesday interview with CNBC.
Mnuchins support for Cain comes as Republican senators are expressing opposition to him being nominated to the Fed, an idea which President Trump first floated on Thursday.
Several GOP senators said Tuesday that Cain, a 2012 GOP presidential candidate and staunch Trump ally, lacked the character and qualifications to serve on the independent central bank.

We've all understood that Herman Cain is unqualified for the job. Now it's been confirmed that Mnunchin isn't qualified for the position he's in.

(10,279 posts)because Herman has said nice things about The MFer-45. And, The MRer-45 supports Herman and feels strongly (about him). Most likely, The MFer-45 is smarter than Herman and expects little trouble in controlling him (i.e., no vote to fight inflation by raising interest rate).
As for knowing anything about serving on the Federal Reserve Board, Herman's attitude is: "Hell, how hard can it be? After all, I did run a pizza business -- now that's hard!"
Some Republican Senators are grumbling about being asked to vote to confirm low knowledge, skills & abilities Herman, but they are falling into line. One was heard thinking out loud "the country will probably crash-and-burn, but before my constituents can related that my voting record, we will all be dead. So, it doesn't matter."
[I can't bring myself to label this comment "sarcasm"]

(516 posts)When Cain was at the KC Fed he just sat on a a customer advisory board to report how healthy pizza/consumer sales were. The Fed uses data like that to determine monetary policy.
Pizza sales down = recession looming.
