Endia Eason, 91, who once ran a home bakery, baked Obama two pies one sweet potato and one peach and made 21 others, including cherry pies for the president's staff and secret service agents.
"Ms. Eason makes a really good sweet potato pie," Obama said later in his speech at Shaker Heights High School. "I'm going to eat it later. I didn't want to eat it before because I didn't want to get sleepy having a big piece of pie" before the speech.
Others in the Obama entourage had no qualms eating them.
"Those agents and staff people kept thanking me for the pies," Endia Eason said. "I'm glad they enjoyed them."

(20,043 posts)haven't had a good one in a minute. My dad and me have made a couple good ones together, but not in a while.
My Dad made our sweet potato pies, too. I think it was a Pennsylvania thing he learned from his mother.

(20,043 posts)Alabama...there's a difference between how they're made up north and down south. I don't think one is better than the other, just a little different. Not something I can explain. Weird, right? LOL!

(10,942 posts)Sweet potato pie is the better tasting of the two.
There is a bite to pumpkin pies that sweet potato does not have. The sweet potatoes have such a nice flavor it doesn't need to be over-run with spices.
I usually make it in a glass dish without the pie crust. That way I can pretend it is on my diet.

(85,987 posts)It took a while for someone to report on the details of the visit. I had wondered what happened to this couple to merit a visit from the President and his consumer protection chief. What an awesome exercise of Presidential initiative.
Mrs. Eason is a cutie. Cute couple. I hope she had help with the pies.

(4,840 posts)the seemingly sweet old lady was planning to use the pies to put the secret service to sleep and everyone in the Whitehouse, including the President, so she could finally realize her years long plan to have her way with him in his sleep. That's no normal old lady and her hand under the table is not where you think it is.
