in Finland - openly running on a platform to slow down efforts to mitigate global warming

"HELSINKI (AP) — Riding a wave of populism across Europe and campaigning to slow down Finland’s efforts to fight climate change, the euroskeptic Finns Party came within 6,800 votes of winning the country’s parliamentary election — a result that smashed even the party’s own predictions..."

-------------------------------------

I suppose once (US) Republicans finally admit to human-caused climate change, they will more openly fight doing anything to stop it. They fight against renewables, now; they fight against immigrants fleeing droughts; they fight for ignorance - but if they are openly fighting against saving humanity and other life on the planet, I haven't noticed.

If you have, please post. Thanks.

1. Of course I don't agree with the Finnish trumpsters...

...but you have to admit that Finland's carbon footprint is a helluva lot smaller than the US footprint. It's an easy sell to the Finns to say "What good will any sacrifices we make do when the US isn't doing shit about climate change?"

2. Finland's population is about the size of Los Angeles, you can do many things off the grid

Maybe we can drill deep bore holes to tap into the geothermal power of the Yellowstone Supervolcano!

We be rich in energy!

New deep geothermal heating project planned at Tampere, Finland

New geothermal heating project planned at Nekala in Tampere, Finland, is targeting a depth of 7-8,000 meters for wells to derive geothermal heat for a local district heating system.

3. I have my doubts about how footprints are calculated

like - it would be stupid IMO if emissions from making consumable goods and cars were attributed to the place where they were made instead of the place they were consumed. I have a feeling all of those cruise ships make the 'footprints' spike in Caribbean countries when it's no doubt people from elsewhere who are taking the cruises.

At any rate - there is this article suggesting that Finland's 'footprint' is large for the EU (they must have high heating costs for one thing):
