'A Trump Rally Turned Revival' At Trump's DC Hotel

An event billed as the “Deplorables Tour” debuted in the Trump International Hotel’s Presidential Ballroom on Saturday. The event promised “comedy, music, awards, and speakers,” but quickly pivoted into a Christian revivalist worship service, with audience members stretching their arms upward and a speaker preaching while knelt over on the ground, crying about his love of Christ.

Alexander Davis, who calls himself “America’s #1 Deplorable,” hosts the Deplorables Tour. The title is a nod to comments that then-candidate Hillary Clinton made on the 2016 campaign trail in which she referred to the “racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic” voters that Trump’s campaign courted as a “basket of deplorables.” In response, Trump supporters attached the “deplorables” label to their movement with pride and wear it as a badge of honor to this day.

Last week, Davis told WMAL that the event was “just going to celebrate the party of Trump, telling the radio hosts that “it’s gonna be a hoot.” On Saturday, more than 100 people donned formal attire and meandered past tables selling raffle tickets and books, stopped to take photos with a cardboard cutout of President Trump, and seated themselves in a ballroom beneath a jumbo projection screen displaying a slightly pixelated image of the president’s family; lights colored red, white and blue splashed on the ceiling. Ticket-holders could chow on slices of two-tiered white sheet cake and drink Coca-Cola from small glass bottles. Some attendees claimed to have traveled more than 1,000 miles to attend the event.

Davis kicked off the show by affixing a white-and-red baseball cap displaying the president’s signature campaign line, “Make America Great Again,” prompting to a planted heckler to yell at him that he was racist for wearing the hat. A trio of young men dressed as Batman, Captain America, and Superman escorted the heckler away. The group calls itself “Superheroes for Trump” and after the brief skit, they proclaimed in character that Trump was a hero and the “real saver of people.”

I wonder why I haven't seen any "Teabaggers for Trump" caps, t-shirts, lacy undergarments, neon signs or stained glass windows yet. There's gotta be a buck to be made there...

P.S. Or billboards. How I wish I had the money for a big, beautiful billboard.
