Sophia Bush's Viral Video On The Birth Control Debate Highlights 3 Critical Points

(Great Video - See below)

Just last week, the Trump administration issued a new health care rule that made it easier for companies to be exempted from covering birth control for their employees on employer-sponsored insurance plans. The rule allowed employers to cite religious or moral reasons for withholding coverage of birth control, and the change could come to impact thousands of the 55 million women currently benefiting from the Obamacare mandate, according to Time. In response to the controversy, Sophia Bush created a viral video on birth control that beautifully sums up why women are outraged by the new rule.

"The rules are focused on guaranteeing religious freedom and conscience protections for those Americans who have a religious or moral objection to providing certain services based on their sincerely held beliefs," Caitlin Oakley, a spokesperson for the Department of Health and Human Services, told CTV News in a statement.

Essentially, the Trump administration is rolling back birth control coverage for organizations that claim they do not want to support sex outside of marriage or any form of contraception. But the thing is, birth control is essential health care that's used by women across the United States for myriad reasons. Here's Bush breaking it down for everyone:

2. Which is why we need more women in leadership positions all across the world.

It is ridiculous to think that men have the ability to legislate policy that affects the health, safety, economic security, and autonomy of women with regards to their bodies. It is even more ridiculous to legislate those things from the perspective of a particular religious position.

Also, we need private employers out of the healthcare provision business. Universal medical care with basic services like reproductive care included is the way to go on this. That way everyone chips in through taxes, like we do on the military. You don't have to get an abortion but just like having troops in Yemen and Syria, which I don't want, I still pay to have a military.

4. This is extremely important.

Not only do most men, especially male politicians not care about these issues that affect only women, they don't know jack about them either and don't bother to learn.

I honestly can't understand why so many women vote for these misogynistic politicians (both male and female) when it has such a direct effect on their lives and the lives of their loved ones.

That is why I think videos like this need to go viral. There are so many women out there - and men - who really have no idea what is happening in this area.

I especially agree about the part of getting private employers out of the healthcare business. They should have no say in this matter whatsoever. We all pay for a lot of things with our tax dollars that we don't agree with and it really pisses me off that most companies will cover Viagra, but not birth control for women, even when it is used for other female healthcare issues.
