Say the house begins impeachment hearings against The Devil which is certainly more than warranted..

Then what? The GOP-dominated Senate won't vote to impeach no matter what The Devil (Trump) does. So, the effort ends there.

This gives The Devil and his GOP another thing to campaign on, in addition to "witch hunt!" and claiming (falsely) that Mueller exonerated The Devil because Barr said so. Impeachment would certainly make facts in the Mueller report (likely the entire thing) public but...

...would it get The Devil out of our gov't? No. Would it help Democrats in 2020? No. Is it the right thing to do under the law and the US Constitution and for protection of our gov't? Yes. But it's a losing issue for the sane party (Democrats) and a winning one for The Devil.

Pelosi is right in saying The Devil is not worth dividing the country over. But he's divided the country more than it's ever been himself, nevermind impeachment. OTOH, The Devil is DESTROYING our country and our gov't, law enforcement, regulatory bodies, - everything.

It seems the choice is between dividing the nation wi/ impeachment hearings that will go nowhere in the Senate and give The Devil a great 2020 issue to run on, OR ... letting The Devil (Trump) destroy our nation and it's government further.

Not a great choice there.

10. +1, not only this but Clinton's approval among republicans was 40% that's unheard of for an

.... opposition party member in any country at any time.

Clinton was relatively popular among republicans and only 1/3rd of America supported impeachment.

Hell, It was republicans had the senate and voted against removing him !!!

12. And all the Benghazi hearings didn't seem to garner

Hillary Clinton any sympathy.

Iím really frustrated by the double standards of this narrative, that investigations that donít lead to conviction will be damaging for us. Doesnít seem to be true when shoe is on the other foot.

13. You conveniently leave out 1998...

Democrats picked up seats in both the House and Senate.

2. This isn't hard! Impeachment is the right thing to do.

It may also uncover additional crimes (it is an investigation after all).

And Trump is STILL COMMITTING CRIMES RIGHT NOW!

3. With the impeachement process

The Democrats will have a Congressional record of the Republicans supporting Trump's actions.

I expect 2020 legisltive session to be busy with the House Democrats proposing all sorts of bills such as Medicare for All, voting rights addressing suppression, free college... Just to get Republican positions on record for the campaign.

4. That was my opinion previously

I absolutely agreed that a ďpoliticalĒ impeachment would be a bad move.

Now the report is out, I donít think there is a choice. These blatant abuses of power have to be addressed, and Mueller has put Congress in the driving seat. It doesnít matter that the Senate wonít convict ó let them stand on the side of lawlessness and corruption if they want to. The effort has to be made.

What happens if we say, well thereís an election coming up and we should let the people decide ó and then Trump wins anyway? If that occurs, all of Trumpís criminality is legitimized. He truly is above the law. And there wonít be another chance to impeach after the election.

And anyway, there just WAS an election ó which Dems won handily, partly because people wanted them to act as a check on Trump. Now is the time to act.

7. +1, I'm not understanding the "no impeachment now" position. There are no sound positions

... against it seeing Russia isn't just going to stop backing their guy.

15. Everyone is worried.

If we impeach, and there is certainlly a moral imperative to do so, but fail to win the Presidential election...
there will be a political bloodbath and 45 will destroy the Republic, The stakes are very high.

It will not matter if we reatain the House and gain the Senate if we loose the White House again.

If the Republicans were not all complicit. The easiest way out of this for the nation would be a full court press by qualified Republicans to challenge 45 in the nomination proess and remove him themselves as a candidate, before the election happens.

We will not be so lucky.

16. My point is he'll do it anyway, Russia isn't going to stop backing their guy. Russia is going to...

... help Red Don in 2020 also.

We don't know how much that help is going to affect the overall election process but there's no way we should take a chance.

We're damned if we do and damned if we don't, we might as well do the right thing

14. I assume they start their investigation into the various wrong doing exposed

The Congressional inquiries have a broader base than the charter of what to investigate given to Mueller. They could openly say that the investigation is for two purposes:
- for the future, to explicitly make illegal accepting help from a foreign country etc
- to investigate further whether there should be an impeachment.

The latter would further bring out the dishonorable things he did and would highlight the portions of Mueller's report that read like a referral to impeachment. It would also reject the attempt of Trump, Barr et al to define the work. We are just less than a year and a half from the election and his actions are far more complicated than even Watergate, much less Clinton.

Doing that would make it clear that Trump is still under investigation and under a cloud of potential impeachment if reelected. He will complain that Congressional investigations are unfair after the Mueller investigation, but it is EXACTLY the pattern used with Nixon and Clinton. Not to mention, there were FOUR years of Benghazi hearings.

19. Country over politics, that's the only choice IMO

We need to stop cowering to Trump and his minions.
I've seen many try to compare this to the impeachment of Bill Clinton. There is no comparison. With Clinton, we had a President being impeached over "lying" to the grand jury about events during a love affair. The hearings and conclusions were distasteful for many.

What we are now facing, is a President who lied about working with a hostile foreign nation to alter the outcome of our presidential election. This goes to the heart of our democracy. Then he continuously tried to obstruct justice, to save his behind. IMO the impeachment hearings will be brutal for DJT and the Republican party. It is for this reason they're working feverishly to prevent the impeachment process from taking place.

Also, it's not only the Republicans who need to put country over politics. After the revelation of the redacted Mueller report, it is clear that Mueller has created a roadmap for Congress. The onus is now on Congress to do their duty. If the House Democrats decide not to impeach the President, they too will have placed politics over country. Then our elections will remain unsafe and with help, Trump will be "re-elected". Other corrupt leaders will also try to influence him. DJT will feel like he's invincible, as long as he remains the President. I believe if we don't do something, our system of government will suffer grave harm.
History will not judge us kindly for our inaction against this corrupt President.
