This week marked the 2,000th American death in a 12-year war that has barely been mentioned by either candidate in this election season. In honor of that obscene milestone - never mind the 100,000-plus dead civilians - the New York Times ran The Roster of the Dead, a four-page spread showing the face, age and hometown of every dead American servicemember. Stop and look at it. And remember: when people get blown up, not everyone dies.

This is the one thing that bothers me about voting for Obama. Why in the fuck are we still fighting this republican war?

(55,981 posts)It is not a "Republican war". While we are focusing on hating Republicans, looters from both sides are at work. We mistakenly think that voting Democrat will solve our problems. It isnt that simple. We live in an oligarchy with a sham two party pretend system. Of course the Democratic Party is much better than the Republican Party. Good cop bad cop.
Too many people are too easily fooled. That's what we need to fix.

(45,319 posts)I find it interesting that you are eager to blame the people but hesitant to place any blame at all on Bushco or the Republican Party.

(8,846 posts)And the old "the two parties are the same party" putdown is no longer a rational defense when you examine the facts.
The wars and the imperialism will continue as long as both parties are funded by corporations, to include Energy, Defense, Insurance, and Finance. This fiasco has it's roots with Carter and Brzezinski, and continues through Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush II, and Obama.
Is that enough blame for you? Brzezinski still brags about his role to this day.

(55,981 posts)that by merely electing Democrats their work is done and life will be swell. I would expect more of DU members.

(55,981 posts)Putting words in the mouths of posters is a cheap trick to make it easier for you to make your point. It's called intellectual dishonesty.
I am currently and will continue to work hard to reelect Pres Barack Obama and local Democrats.

(55,981 posts)Nowhere do I advocate voting third party, nor do I suggest that both parties are the same.
Our country is controlled by the 1% and they are to blame for our situation.
