Brooks and Shields on PBS News Hour

I watched it this morning. Judy Woodruff, Brooks and Shields were mostly all on the same page with regard to how dangerous it is to have Trump as President. Some of what I heard was "utter sadness at what transpired", "dismal situation", and one of the most important, "we are in deep trouble if our country faces a crisis while he's in office". There was not a single defense, even by Brooks, of what Trump has done. They excoriated Assange too. Talked about how sacred our elections are and how do we begin to right all of this. Shields says we need a commission to decide how to move forward in light of what we now know the Russians did to put Trump in the White House. Shields also mentioned that the Republicans in Congress are to blame for covering up for Trump, giving Romney kudos for being one of the only ones calling Trump out on this. They praised the people in the administration who had the courage of their convictions to stop Trump and not following his orders blindly.

I know most people don't get their news from PBS, but even if it only reaches some Republican voters every little bit helps.

Brooks is a conservative, but no fan of Trump. He doesn't even try to defend him. It has been interesting to see his views change and become more centrist over the years. These days he agrees with Mark Shields more often than not.

IMO, the News Hour has the best reporting and discussions in tv news. No hype, no sensationalism, just facts. They invite people with differing viewpoints to explore the issues and actually let them talk without yelling and interruptions. They don't waste time on softball questions.

In the beginning he was able to find some things to interject and oppose what Shields was saying, but as the weeks and months have gone on, I've seen him slowly be forced to admit that what Trump has done is indefensible. It almost looks painful for Brooks to admit.

There should be a 9/11 type commission, with all hearings public. And, yes, finally, a journalist calls out Republicans for their perfidy.
