(17,537 posts)a dumb capitalist like Trump and his ilk.
The difference is that a smart capitalist works within the system and wins, because they are smart. Bezos is very smart. (setting any moral judgments aside for the moment).
OTOH, a dumb capitalist will game the system anyway they can, because winning honestly isn't a possibility for them.
Sometimes I don't understand the ire directed at Bezos. Yes he's rich, and he may have broken some "progressive" moral codes in how he operates his businesses, but on the whole he seems to have operated honestly and legally, and just been ahead of the curve on innovation (i.e. smart). You want smart capitalists like Bezos to act better? Pass better laws. They'll comply with the laws because they can still make money that way.
That said, I don't know if I want an unreformed, active capitalist running any media network that is supposed to be progressive or at least unbiased. If I understand correctly, Steyer is also a capitalist, but a retired one, and possibly partially reformed, but I don't know about that. His main thing is that he's smart enough to see how badly the right wing nutjobs and general nutjobs are fucking up the world, and he actually cares about future generations (due to offspring, altruism, or both).
And, all THAT said - if it took Bezos working with Steyer to have this media network we so desperately need - and they were willing to do it - hell yeah I'd be on board. It would be an improvement over what we have today.
Problem is, it won't make money, and anyone who wants/needs to make money (i.e. capitalists) won't be able to be all in on it.
So I don't think you have to worry about Bezos.

(10,110 posts)Drag them kicking and screaming through the mud in congress as they're held up against Mueller's evidence.
You think the media would miss out on those ratings and subscriptions?
They would be doing the American people a favor: letting them see on national TV a kicking of the corrupt snot out of a group of people Americans really hate: Washington politicians - that may yet result in criminal charges when they follow the money.

(9,086 posts)We ought to run some hit commercials showing old-school Republican Commie-bashers denouncing political opponents as tools of the Kremlin and show the gasps and looks of horror as their past audience takes it in. The commercial should then cut forward to some of the members of the old Cosmic Commie Killer sixty years later listening in shock to the details of the Mueller report illustrating the links between the Trump campaign and Russian intelligence.
Then show those ads in areas with a lot of military and ex-military.
But that commercial wont be made. If it wont be made because our Democratic leaders think we ought to play nice, the consultants will try to kill such ads because they arent kewl.
