Pelosi: Bush Impeachment `Off the Table’

By Susan Ferrechio
Published: November 8, 2006

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi promised Wednesday that when her party takes over, the new majority will not attempt to remove President Bush from office, despite earlier pledges to the contrary from others in the caucus.

“I have said it before and I will say it again: Impeachment is off the table,” Pelosi, D-Calif., said during a news conference.

https://archive.nytimes.com/www.nytimes.com/cq/2006/11/08/cq_1916.html?module=inline

And two years later...

And for all those who have missed the point. Not impeaching Bush didn't hurt the Dems in the next election. So we should trust Speaker Pelosi's judgement on this.

51. Nonsense.

Perhaps you are unaware, but the House has been pursuing multiple investigations pretty much since the first day they had the ability to do so. Issuing subpoenas, requesting documents, lining up witnesses, etc.

This "the Dems don't do anything" nonsense is getting really tiresome, especially from people who are ostensibly Democrats.

3. Thanks for posting evidence on how we got here

Failure to impeach Bush/Cheney raised the bar for impeachment (if you can't get impeached for starting an illegal war of aggression based on lies, what can you be impeached for?), empowering Trump to go boldly go where no president has gone before.

As for Obama's landslide, there is no evidence that he wouldn't have beaten McCain if Nancy had allowed impeachment to move forward.

5. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph,

The people were fed up with the Afghanistan/Iraq wars. Bush/Cheney/Powell lied to the American people.

If ever there was a time for impeachment it was during the Bush/Cheney administration.

Fucking Cheney exempted the gas and oil frackers from the Clean air and water Act.

I need to calm down, Omm.

26. "Diebold was a subsidiary of Halliburton"

Diebold has never been part of or owned by Halliburton.

As for where they are now, they were sold to ES&S in 2009. It was all over the news at the time.

43. some more detail on here - acquired by Dominion (scary)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dominion_Voting_Systems

SNIP In May 2010, Dominion acquired Premier Election Solutions (formerly Diebold Election Systems) from Election Systems & Software (ES&S). ES&S had just acquired PES from Diebold and was required to sell off PES by the United States Department of Justice for anti-trust concerns.[4]

In June 2010, Dominion acquired Sequoia Voting Systems. [5] SNIP

There is propaganda on this wikipedia page as well -- so take what's there with a grain 'o salt

9. and even if there is, correlation does not necessarily imply causation

I'm sorry, but this whole "don't let's upset the apple cart!" shit is getting really fucking old.

Bush and Cheney are war criminals, and should be brought before the ICC, but as is abundantly clear at this point, laws are for suckers, might makes right, and everyone should just do whatever they can get away with.

Unless, you know, we stand up and say "enough is enough" and make these fuckers abide by the rule of law. Goddammit.

21. Exactly.

Impeachment is part of their duties as lawmakers when it's clear that the president is a corrupt piece of shit and needs to be held accountable. It shouldn't be something that is optional based on what they believe is most politically advantageous to them.

This scumbag needs to held responsible for his crimes or it's clear that the rule of law means absolutely nothing in this country and that the president can pretty much do anything he wants with zero fear of consequences. Is that the message we really want to send?

10. Jesus Christ what a stupid post

Repeating myself:

"Letting the voters decide" is bullshit because:

1) It downplays the importance of the Mueller report, and gives ammo to the claim it was a witch hunt
2) It encourages the Russians to continue interfering and colluding with Trump
3) It emboldens Trump to continue colluding with Russia
4) It emboldens Trump to continue all his other crimes
5) What the hell happens if Trump wins? Does that then validate everything he did?

There are no good arguments against impeachment. None. It is the only option.

as needed. They've been stacking the courts as fast as they can, and would be thrilled to fill a Supreme Court vacancy, with a person of their liking. Impeachment hearings will be a joke to the Republicans.

32. Seems "subsidiary' was a word that has come together since the 2004 election.

It's worse.
O'dell, who owned(?)Diebold then was unusually tight w GWB and cheney to the point of hanging out "at the ranch" in Crawford tx. Bush and Cheney "partnered" w Odell on the HAVA (Help America Vote Act). Since then 15 years ago, the sentiment "partnered" morphed into "subsidiary". Semantics. I stand corrected about the word subsidiary and the connection to Halliburton was Cheney, who was still still involved in getting Halliburton sweetheart deals in Iraq and Afghanistan. Cheney "stepped down" for appearances sake, but, continued to spoon feed Halliburton contracts throughout their admin.
Point being overall, that Diebold was working w the Bush Admin wayyyyyy back then, and privitizing voting boxes was, and is, a bad idea. See Ivanka getting apatent in China. Should scare everyone right out of their sneakers.

As far as "knowing everything", perhaps you should research the stuff you post *before* you post it so you don't post false information. Then, you won't have to get defensive when you're provided with information that was readily available to anyone with Google and a couple of spare minutes.

and while we're at it, let's go ahead and "investigate the investigators" and get Mueller into a public hearing.

Oh, who am I kidding, the fact that we're even having to talk about this makes me sick. This country died in 2016; whatever happens from here on out, I will not forgive the Republicans for ending our republic. Ironic, really. "Party of Lincoln"...what a fucking joke.

24. I agree; it makes no sense to me that it's even up for discussion

But then maybe I don't understand the process or something; people keep saying "well we should investigate other wrongdoings first" which I feel like sort of accepts that he's given a pass on the obvious obstruction and laundry list of shady dealings that could imply that he's compromised, and I don't see how beginning the process of impeachment would prevent those other matters from being included...there are so many impeachable offenses. That's what's worst about it all...it's just meaningless as far as what's right, what's "legal;" it all comes down to brutal politics, and eventually to who has control of the most guys with guns who are capable of forcing people to do their masters' bidding. So much for democracy; so much for our nation.
