(1,159 posts)When I was first diagnosed with shingles, I was terrified. This was, in part, due to my aunt's experience with shingles which left her totally debilitated for weeks on end. I was lucky, though, because my doctor says we caught it early. The prescription he wrote did the job after a week or so and I'm pretty much over it.
Now if only I can only find a pharmacist with the Shingrix vaccine. Sigh.
I agree, though. Pretty scary at first.

(14,144 posts)..... Most pharmacies have a back order list and they call you when you name comes up on the list. It is a two part shot,.. within 90 days you get the second shot then you are all set. Much more effective than the old vaccine. Even if you got the old one they recommend you get this new one too.
You don't want to leave yourself open to Shingles,... It is nasty.
Yup, friends and family had warned me about shingles and told me to get the vaccine asap. Sure enough I was on the waiting list when I returned from a long trip and got hit with a stress + jet lag/exhaustion combination which left me vulnerable. Mine really was short-lived, though, so I can't complain. I'm traveling again at the moment but hoping there's a Shingrix with my name on it when I get back.
Take care!

(14,144 posts)Call you pharmacy during your worldly travels. Once you return home the Shingrix will be ready and waiting for you when you get home.

(17,600 posts)Not propping CVS particularly, just that they had it and it was a piece of cake.
FWIW, with my insurance it had to be billed as a medical procedure, NOT pharmacy. Which is why I went to minute clinic instead of pharmacy. As a medical procedure, it was covered 100%.
I did want to sleep more than usual for a few days after each shot. I had no other side effects.

I try to keep something of that spirit in mind...
Personally, generally speaking I'm more angry than afraid at this juncture of events in history, as far as I'm aware of them.
But, what are you talking about in particular?

(58,785 posts)Can't say I'm fucking terrified. He came over when I called to be petted while I looked for an ID. But the two times I seriously thought I was going to die when I was appraising was because of dogs, and we have kids at play around here, so if I see him again I'll do something about it.
Useful fear. Suspect it'll be driving more people to the polls, if the election's what you're thinking of.

If you aren't scared you aren't paying attention. Or good on ya for your bravery.
