AUSTIN, Texas Texas has settled a federal lawsuit over the states bungled search for non-citizens among the states 16 million registered voters.
The agreement announced Friday ends an effort by Texas elections officials that led to the state wrongly questioning the U.S. citizenship of tens of thousands of voters.
Texas will also pay $450,000 to civil rights groups that sued after the state announced in January that it had identified nearly 100,000 people who were potentially ineligible to vote.

(9,963 posts)The lie of voter fraud got a lot of attention, and thats what will live in many peoples minds rather than the settlement that found the Texas Acting Secretary of State to have acted in error. I am so tired of Republicans rigging the system to benefit themselves and hurting so many people deliberately. If I didnt live in a blue city, I dont think I could live in this state. The state government is a bunch of wackadoos.
