Don Lemon Calls Trump's Bluff, Invites the 'Many Generals' Who Love Robert E. Lee on His Show

https://www.mediaite.com/tv/don-lemon-calls-trumps-bluff-invites-the-many-generals-who-love-robert-e-lee-on-his-show/

CNN’s Don Lemon issued a challenge on Friday night. He asked any one of the “many generals” that President Donald Trump insisted told him Robert E. Lee is their favorite to come on his show to make their case.

He started off by playing a clip of Trump’s Charlotteville defense.

“I was talking about people that went because they felt very strongly about the monument to Robert E. Lee, a great general,” Trump said.

Trump continued on in the clip: “Whether you like it or not, he was one of the great generals. I have spoken to many generals here, right at the White House, and many people thought — of the generals, they think that he was maybe their favorite general.”

....lasting until midnight. My fear if they move him up an hour or two is that he may feel the need to be more of a "showman". I used to like Chris Cuomo when he was on in the morning. I can't watch much of his show at night now, he's took "shticky" (is that a word?) with too many cute sayings.

Maybe some around here would really be interested in the history of civil war generals and their lives pre and post civil war. You may be surprised by some of the things you find out like who was Lincolin's first choice for the Union's general. It wasn’t Grant. The country is awash with misinformation about history on both sides.

.. with more than a passing interest in our Civil War KNOWS the traitor Lee was offered the Generalship of the entire Union Army. He CHOOSE to pass that up to lead a traitorous cabal AGAINST the very Country that had given him so much. A traitor is a traitor no matter what color uniform you wear/wore.

Yes, I agree with you that history could be better taught, but trying to whitewash traitors just because the had a modicum of talent goes a bit far for me.

I said nothing about whether Lee should be whitewashed. It's about inviting people to visit history because what they may find out could be surprising. I didn't elaborate, you did... and by attacking my comment showed that your take on history may possibly use some refining or at least some perspective. I personally think in terms of the basic information that's available first and save the vitriol for places where it can't taint the facts, like when I'm fishing.

with the white hot racism of the men under his command. Hatred is a great motivator and as such the confederate soldier was very well motivated.
Lee was a great general, can't argue with that, but he had soldiers willing to march till their feet bled just for the chance to kill n@gger loving Yankee scum.

The anti-black racism of the South tool generations of nurturing. In colonial times poor whites and blacks often found common cause. That changed as laws targeting blacks were enacted and social forces sold the lie that whites were superior to blacks.

Of course there were other lies. "Lee was the pure and perfect knight" scooped out of Sir Walter Scott and Morte D' Arthur. That lie started during the war and gained currency with the propaganda campaign sponsored by the Daughters of the Confederacy and their ilk.
Instead Lee was a parochial Southerner who abandoned his oath, to protect and defend the constitution, to defend slavery. Or as I see it the right of rich white men to rape black children.

But Lee was a great general.
