Unfortunately, we seem to expend much of our energy demanding that Congress or Mueller or other people do something about it (and then getting worked up when they don't do what we think they should do when and how we think they should do it), yet we don't seem to put nearly as much energy into thinking much about what we can do ourselves and then following through with it.
What are YOU doing to fight back and bring our country back to its senses?

(4,980 posts)Don't like the future that Ayn Rand worshippers have in mind for the rest of us? Then fight with your pocketbook.
Go look for that kitchen doodad at a thrift store before buying new. Niece wants a printer for Christmas? Give her your underutilized laser printer that works great (box it up all fun like, and it'll be new to her). I've been fixing super cheap side dishes like beans and cornbread to cut down on grocery spending and processed foods.
I'm basically drawing down my budget. In exchange, I'm gonna spend on campaign contributions. Should I have to do this? Ideally, no, but this is how it is until Citizens United is undone. Every time I wash a load of cloth napkins, I feel like I'm fighting 'the orange man' Going without the usual, ironically, makes me feel more free. I believe many readers on this site already are doing such for environmental reasons, which is where it all started for me. Every year he's been in office, I've chosen to consume less and less.
Get out the vote! Now! This year!
Every time I helped someone register to vote last year, I learned something about where people are at in the electorate. Aside from the recently moved, the number one reason folks weren't registered was because they thought they were too young to vote! It's a serious problem. So many think they have to be 21! In Texas you can become a volunteer deputy registrar (VDR). I'd like to think some of the newly registered felt a sense of having some skin in the game of political turnings. We need more young people to vote!
There's plenty to do between now and the possibility of the sky falling.
(I upcycled this content from an earlier thread I posted on, because I'm on a phone and kinda lazy).

(430 posts)I have been suggesting they get involved with a local party group, many to choose from. Always, Democratic groups welcome people and can really make a difference.
Criticisms are pointless if you are not involved

(18,486 posts)We must stop arguing about "what THEY oughta do" and "why aren't THEY doing x, y and z" and start talking about "what I'M going to do" and "this is what I'M doing."
Unfortunately, whenever I point this out, the response all too often is either just more complaining with no real answer about what they're doing themselves or lots of excuses about why they don't have the time or ability or resources power to do anything (and then they go back to their cellphones or computers to complain some more).
We sit back and expect everyone else to protect us and do our work for us as if we have no power. And no matter what they do, it's never good enough. It's time to empower ourselves and each other!
