Trump beat Hillary Clinton by eight points with seniors (53%-45%) in 2016, which was lower than seniors support of Romney over Obama in 2012 (56%-44%). Trumps support with seniors has totally flipped. It has gone from 52% support to 53% definitely not voting for him in 2020
If Trump Loses Seniors, He Loses The White House
Republicans have intentionally focused their voter suppression efforts on younger people and minorities because those are the two growing groups of voters who tend to vote Democratic. The Republican Party has gone older, whiter, and more rural under Trump. Republicans need seniors to win. If voters over age 65 support Trump in smaller numbers, Republicans will lose the White House, the Senate, and Democrats will keep the House.
There is plenty of time for these numbers to shift, but if Democrats nominate a candidate who seniors feel comfortable with, Donald Trump could be headed for a historic defeat in 2020
we sure can hope so......😎

(22,651 posts)I think that's why Russian hackers were in many states voter information. Most info is public information anyone can view it. Entire data bases (not public) with millions of voters were left insecure and accessed by the hacker groups. That's in the report.
Clinton won by 3 million votes. The actual 'cheating' happened in the hundreds of districts where just a couple thousand fraud ballots to a spoiler, ballots thrown away because president vote "left blank" and/or disenfranchised votes.

(45,418 posts)to keep rates low in spite of low unemployment and high stock prices. This is a very bad sign for educated older Americans who have experienced recessions in the past. The next recession will be very bad since the Fed will have limited ability to stimulate the economy through low rates.
Maybe seniors are worried about what Trump would do to Social Security and Medicare or how his economic/trade policies will ruin their retirement savings.
We can't always believe polls after last time since we got big surprises with Trump and Brexit.

(1,402 posts)It boggles my mind, too. DJT is such a despicable human being, I just don't understand why the republicans in congress would not kick his butt to the curb. I am democrat but I have never in my lifetime been so disgusted with the republicans.

(11,885 posts)He lies all the time, especially about supporting Medicaid , Medicare, and Social Security, and he and the gop have done everything they could to destroy it, and all health care. They raise their taxes, defund their health care , and take away their safety nets in their retirement, so why would any senior be for doing that to themselves now? He also is a corrupt criminal who is robbing us blind now, while we're paying more in taxes and he's driving the deficit much higher, which we will be stuck paying for that too.

(32,623 posts)This is about seniors (65+) who voted for Chump in 2016, and will NOT vote for him again.
They can just stay home and not vote, or they can come out and vote for the "good guys." We'll see what they decide to do next year. I think a lot of senior citizens watch Faux Snooze 24/7 and they don't get to hear the truth much. Hopefully that will be changing soon.

Further, seniors are watching while Trump's incompetent policies are destroying the futures of their children and grandchildren. They are watching in horror as a presidency unfolds into a dictatorship that they never imagined they would see in their lifetimes, an evil, dishonest dictator sitting in our White House.
