(102,119 posts)pretty well encapsulates the mid-late 60s. The RW, then, as now, would make themselves (and the military) "victims" to the anti-war protesters, with efforts to paint them as "Commies" and unpatriotic... Thus, culminating in campus protests and ultimately the horrific Kent State shootings.
So, I look at this, not with the innocence of the day as depicted, but with the sad knowledge of what was to come...
Were you alive during this time?
I would have been 12 in 1970.
I was active in anti-war activity in 1972 when I was 14.

(102,119 posts)come around--and especially when some of the music I associate strongly with the period comes on...
We lived through a tormented period, but then I think of the kids of Columbine or Parkland or so many of today's horrific events and it does help put it into perspective.
I was very anti-war and anti-establishment from an early age.
But I never had to deal with random and senseless killing at my own school.

A lot of parents were pissed at the time.

I got an "A" in theater class by the way. My teacher, Ms. Coffin (rest her soul) was a peace advocate.

I went to law school and eventually worked in insurance, after some pro bono work for liberal causes.
But in community college I did star in our production of "Hair." And yes, we did take off all of our clothes during "Let The Sub Shine."
Everyone got their panties in a wad over that, too.
