Do you have to file a copy of your federal income tax return with your NY State tax return? If so, would not the State of New York have copies of Dotard's federal returns?

(21,841 posts)You don't have to file your federal tax return with the NYS income tax return.
However keep in mind that NY has access to property tax information, which includes valuation of the property on which the tax is based. This could be useful in proving bank fraud.

After all, they're not going to re-work the federal one to make sure it was done correctly. All they care about is the state return.

(25,816 posts)I had no idea.
I don't believe I've ever lived in a state that required that, but since most of my adult life I've used an accountant to file my taxes, it's possible that was happening and I was simply unaware.
I'm currently in NM, and looking at the forms from earlier this year, it does not appear that the state also got a copy of the federal return.
