1. I think people can do better than to use the name of a victim of rape, kidnapping and colonization

to insult the president.

6. Yes. We must use EVERYTHING.

This is war. And so far we are losing. This means that everything we care about is going to be destroyed. At this point it is largely a war of memes, and "brokeahontas" is a brilliant one, turning something Trump has used dozens of times back on him. We need to be doing more of that more often, not navel-gazing about whether we are being politically correct as we wonder whether to return fire as we are being run down by the enemy.

8. So what I'm hearing you say is that we should use all racist, sexist and bigoted insults against the

president in meme form, and not worry about who it hurts, because using those terms in memes will...do what now?

It is just stupid, like our President. It is an apt callout on his bullshit.

12. Yeah, I guess I'd say a mocking name, based on an actual indigenous woman's childhood nickname

and used against a white man, is racist.

13. What it is based on

...is a taunt used by the white man against a woman, tossed back at him. If Trump hadn't called Elizabeth Warren Pocahontas then Brokeahontas wouldn't even make any sense. But Trump's history of nicknaming other people and wealth braggadocio make it a delicious bit of karma that does no harm at all to any actual native Americans.

15. White people using the endearing nickname of an oppressed person simply isn't a good look.

a delicious bit of karma that does no harm at all to any actual native Americans.

Many of them feel differently. They're a little tired of being used as mascots, of having their culture used as a costume or a weapon. There is no advantage to be gained here, only a loss.

20. What world is that?

People keep telling me it's a world where using terms that hurt people they like to consider as allies is okay as long as those terms are directed at other people in power. If that's the case, why don't we use the n-word against Trump?

22. She's not wrong. Native Americans have already objected to her name being used

in US political battles. No one can deny that what is being suggested is using wordplay involving the name of Pocahontus.

“NCAI is a bi-partisan organization that works equitably with both sides of the political aisle, and it is not our common practice to comment on the partisan name calling that has come to dominate American politics,” said NCAI Executive Director Jacqueline Pata in the official release. “But we cannot and will not stand silent when our Native ancestors, cultures, and histories are used in a derogatory manner for political gain.”

Pocahontas is a “well-known historical Native figure” that has been turned into a derogatory term. The NCAI release states that, “in fact, the cultural misappropriation of Native American cultures and traditions unfortunately was a common occurrence during the 2016 election season, with multiple attacks by candidates and their surrogates during debates, rallies, and live broadcast appearances.”

27. Thanks for speaking up. In case you see this being argued elsewhere:

“NCAI is a bi-partisan organization that works equitably with both sides of the political aisle, and it is not our common practice to comment on the partisan name calling that has come to dominate American politics,” said NCAI Executive Director Jacqueline Pata in the official release. “But we cannot and will not stand silent when our Native ancestors, cultures, and histories are used in a derogatory manner for political gain.”

19. Yes, it is. It's using the name of a revered Native American to mock Trump.

Tribal members have ALREADY objected to Trump's doing this. They would also be offended if Dems did this. They would feel USED.

18. It's not brilliant at all. The Cherokee tribes have already objected strongly

to the use of the name of their princess being used as a joke. They wouldn't be any happier if Dems did this than they were with R's.

Any D who did that would be USING a revered N.A. to mock Trump. That would be very offensive.

If it's on record that he used the N word please link me up. I hate the guy but so far I don't believe there is evidence that he's used that word. I wouldn't be surprised but haven't seen evidence.

recorded. That's what I get for posting under the influence. In any case, my point stands -- he certainly uses racist rhetoric, but that doesn't mean using racist rhetoric against him is useful or helpful.

26. This is a play on a very particular person's name, as you know. And tribal leaders

have already objected in terms that would apply as much to our use of the name of Pocahontas as Trump's use.

a Native American. And tribal leaders have already strenuously objected to that.

17. That would be the dumbest thing in the world for Warren to do, and she's not dumb.

The Cherokee nation finally accepted her apology in February for taking the DNA test.

The last thing she should do now is use a joke involving a play on Pocahontus's name.

24. The National Congress of American Indians OBJECTS. Isn't that enough of a reason

to end this discussion? I am certain that Elizabeth Warren is too caring and sensitive to even consider this idea.

It is wrong when Trump does it, and it would be wrong for us to reply back in kind. Keep Pocahontus out of our political fights.

President Donald Trump earned a nickname of his own after a bombshell The New York Times report revealed he once lost more money than any other American.

HBO "Real Time" host Bill Maher called Trump a "reverse billionaire" on Friday night and said Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) should call him "Brokeahontas."

The president has nicknamed Warren "Pocahontas."
