In Indiana, Purvi Patel suffered a miscarriage and put the fetus in a bag in a dumpster. At the hospital, while suffering from heavy bleeding, law enforcement arrived to question her. During the investigation, local police found text messages that indicated Patel had ordered drugs online to end her pregnancy, but a toxicologist testified at her trial that no drugs were found in her blood sample. In March, Patel was sentenced to 30 years in prison for neglecting a dependent as well as six years for feticide.
When abortion is illegal, even miscarriages can end in prison sentences. Purvi Patels story mirror the stories of the 17 women jailed in El Salvador whose pregnancies ended in miscarriage or complications during birth. Many of them were charged with murder and sentenced to decades in prison. A woman who goes to the hospital seeking medical care can be reported to authorities if medical professionals suspect that the woman induced an abortion.

(25,839 posts)Birth control and abortion both forbidden. Thousands upon thousands of babies were abandoned, most or whom wound up in overcrowded, unsanitary, understaffed orphanages.
This is our future if the Right has its way.

(3,541 posts)but the laws basically state (at least in our state) that you can drop off a baby at the local police station or fire station. So, I can only assume that those stations will at some point start to provide day care.
I think of the extreme pro-lifers or rather anti-choice people that voted for Trump - because of abortion. And I have to wonder if the trade off is going to be worth it. They may end up outlawing legal abortions, but promote illegal unsafe abortions. Even worse, their trade off in electing Trump may end up with us having a full blown war with Iran and her allies. And, I guess if that happens, then I can only assume that they are willing to sacrifice their young adult children in a war to protect the right of a fetus. I hope the trade off is worth to them....
I do know if we end up in a war, and I encounter a Republican protesting - I will ask them wasn't this the trade off you wanted, protection of the fetus at the cost of your children.

(9,761 posts)Whose greatest wish in life is to bring as much harm and suffering on all other people as possible.
They dont care at all about life. They just care about punishing women because they hate them. They love war, love the death penalty, love workers getting hurt on the job, love it when people starve, etc. etc.
Think of them as sociopaths who just want the rest of the world to suffer as much as possible and die, and you will most likely be right.
They care very much about the people who are already alive...just not the way you and I care. They care about inflicting as much harm and suffering as possible on those already living.

(21,615 posts)Politics, I believe, is mostly pedagogy.
We're all to some degree hurt children in adult bodies - with the caveat that some of us, in the course of time, find constructive ways of living with that fact. And some of us don't.
That's where right-wingers come in.
"Vote for me," the implied message goes, "and I'll punch the people making you feel small right in the face."
Your father was brutal? I'll encourage cops to brutalize others and even invade some defenseless country, making sure they feel what you felt.
Ignored as a child, because your little brother/sister got more attention? I'll go after minorities, the poor, the disabled, etc. (i.e. the hated "little brother" ).
Missed out on fun and sex in your teens because your Bible-thumping parents/neighbors made sure you never had the confidence? I'll go after those fornicatin' women and gays, creating the conditions for them to die if possible.
And so on.

(63,221 posts)Especially Trump. Sorry, I realize this is a risky post, but I honestly hope they meet that fate. They are destroying our country and are a direct threat to life on earth.
