Trump UK visit: More than one million Londoners ready to demonstrate against US president, survey suggests
Protest on course to be among the biggest in the countrys history with 13 per cent of citys population likely to turn out

More than one million Londoners are ready to demonstrate against Donald Trumps visit to the UK next month, a survey suggests.
A staggering 13 per cent of the citys 8 million residents say they are likely to join the protest, which would make it among the biggest in the countrys history.
An even higher proportion of 18- to 24-year-olds one in five said they expect to march on the streets during the state visit, which will take place on 3-6 June.
And Londoners of all ages oppose Mr Trumps trip by a margin of more than two-to-one, with 54 per cent against it and just 24 per cent supporting it, according to the poll by YouGov and Queen Mary University of London.
The results set the scene for an extraordinary few days, after the US president shunned London when he visited last year because he did not want to be confronted with protesters.
This time, he and first lady Melania will enjoy the full pomp and ceremony of a state visit, including a banquet at Buckingham Palace although several leading political figures will boycott it.

(102,142 posts)Cersei Lannister such a nasty woman. No stamina. Could handle four kingdoms, maybe five. Definitely not seven, Trump said Thursday to a confused collection of reporters. And Jaime Lannister. Huge loser. Overrated. Couldnt keep a spot in the Kings Guard. Got captured by Robb Stark. I prefer knights who dont get caught.
Met with stunned silence, Trump proceeded to announce a pivot in foreign policy. Were done with Syria. Syrias not so bad. Ive always liked Syria. Syria is terrific. We need to focus on Kings Landing. Theres some bad hombres currently sitting the Iron Throne. He declared plans to build a fleet of ships to transport his Dothraki horde across the Narrow Sea and approach from the east. They would then storm the Mud Gate and capture the city under the cover of night.
When reporters informed him that he was copying the plots of two different episodes, Trump replied, Episodes of what? I just came up with that on my own.
Trump did express admiration for some aspects of the Lannisters. He proclaimed that Tywin Lannister was a classy guy who was super wealthy, like myself and that he thought the bond between Cersei and Jaime was similar to how he felt about Ivanka. A moment later, he added, You know, if she wasnt my daughter

(22,976 posts)Its past time to hit the streets. How/why have sensible Americans not been demonstrating by the hundreds of thousands, or millions, as our democracys gone on life-support?

(63,221 posts)And why honor him with a banquet at Buckingham Palace? Can you imagine what the conversation will be like between him, Melania, the Queen and Prince Phillip? What could they possibly have to say to one another? It's such a bad joke.
