There is the melting glaciers in the Arctic and Antarctic, then there is the historically bad flooding in the USA Midwest preventing crops of corn being planted on time for fall harvest, added to that is the soybean market being killed by Trump's asinine tariffs, plus the complete collapse of the oceanic and temperate forest food chains (with insects and sea life like krill and planktons disappearing at astonishing rates...

Bottom line?

We were asleep for 40 years, living in a Reagan fueled fantasy that said we could sustain infinite growth in a finite system and that giving almost all of the profits to the very top would make things magically great for everyone...

Now the planet IS on fire, jobs ARE disappearing from careers into 'gigs', social safety nets are shredded and approaching bankruptcy, and mass extinction is underway and irreversible at this time.

We're not just in trouble any more.
We are fucked, right alongside everything else that lives and breathes on Planet Earth.

By 2100, I suspect there will be fewer than 1 billion people left on the planet, and they will all be on the brink of extinction and starvation.

Nature was the golden goose, and in our own myopia, we all allowed the goose to be killed and lived off of the surplus eggs until its become our own eulogy.

Only one small correction: "...social safety nets are shredded and approaching bankruptcy..."

Shredded, yes. Approaching bankruptcy? Hardly. Unless you mean the oligarchy-created faux failure designed to start funneling yet more money into their pockets.

Those corrections (i.e. - raising the caps on income that pays into the system) are subject to about as much propaganda as climate research.

I swear, the older I get, the more I know and the more depressed I grow...

We saw that on John Oliver a few days ago. Thanks for posting this!

Ya know, folks still won't believe the horrendous severity of climate change facing us, even if "The Science Guy" says it. But glad those in the know keep hammering away.

"...many American politicians remain glibly indifferent to the threat of climate change. In a very pragmatic sense, therefore, and in a moral one, people seem to be the problem."
