All DU members: I learned this afternoon that Don McGahn has been ordered by the White House not to appear before the House to testify regarding what he knows about Trump's many impeachable actions and that, according to guests on Nicolle Wallace's "Deadline Whitehouse", McGahn will obey that WH order. This situation enraged me and I took the following actions:
I made phone calls to the offices of my representative, my two Senators and the following members the House leadership:
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA) , Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (MD), Majority Whip James Clyburn (SC), Caucus Chair Hakeem Jefffries (NY), Assistant Speaker Ray Lujan (NM), Judiciary Chair Gerry Nadler (NY), and Oversight Chair Elijah Cummings (MD) and made the following points:
1. This order to McGahn by Trump and the White House is just one more example of Trump's Abuse of Power and violation of his Oath of Office.
2. This action by Trump et al just adds to his many other violations of his oath of office, his many other acts of Abuse of Power, his many acts of Obstruction of Justice, his violations of the Emoluments Clause of the Constitution, his Conspiracy with AG Barr to hide his crimes, His Conspiracy with Secretary of the Treasury Mnuchin and IRS Commisioner Rettig to refuse to obey criminal provisions of the Internal Revenue Code, etc.
3. Many, if not most, of these impeachable offenses are independent of the multiple such offenses recited in the Mueller report. The unredacted version of the Mueller report may reference additional impeachable offenses. But, leaving aside those offenses that have been redacted, way more than enough offenses are PUBLICLY known to warrant impeachment.
4. if Republican Rep Justin Amash can straightforwardly point out the need and appropriateness of impeachment proceedings, the House Leadership has NO Excuse any longer to hold back on commencing such proceedings.
5.The House Leadership can no longer stand idly by on the the basis of a faux need to get more evidence before commencing such proceedings.
6. An argument that commencing proceedings started now will cost votes in the 2020 election and cause democrats to lose the presidential contest and the House is completely misguided. Saying that we should wait to defeat Trump at the polls in 2020 has become foolhardy, If Trump is allowed to continue the way he's going, he will arrange it so that there are NO elections in 2020. We will have lost our constitutional democracy and America will become an Authoritarian Dictatorship.
7. The continuation by the membership of the House Leadership (especially by Speaker Pelosi) in their pusillanimous reaction to the crimes of Trump and his administration would amount to a DERELICTION of their sworn duty to preserve and protect the constitutionalists of the United States.
SO HERE IS MY CALL TO EVERY MEMBER of DU: CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVE, YOUR SENATORS. MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE LEADERSHIP and anyone else you can think of that might have some influence and make the above points. DEMAND IMPEACHMENT NOW!

(9,199 posts)Wouldn't defying a lawful subpoena be good grounds for losing one's law license?

(18,486 posts)He hasn't yet defied the subpoena. And until he's actually charged and found to be in contempt of court, he has not legally done anything wrong.

(9,199 posts)would that be grounds for disbarment?
Thanks.

(9,199 posts)I was wondering why McGahn wouldn't be more concerned about that.
