Nevada advances abortion decriminalization bill

https://www.rgj.com/story/news/politics/2019/05/21/lawmakers-ok-abortion-decriminalization-bill/3757940002/

The Nevada Assembly has passed a wide-ranging bill to decriminalize abortion procedures, moving the measure one step closer to the governor's desk on a day of nationwide protests against a wave of abortion restrictions enacted in other states.

No Republicans joined the near-unanimous bloc of Assembly Democrats who supported Senate Bill 179, also known as the Trust Nevada Women Act. The measure passed to polite nods of approval from pro-choice advocates gathered for a Tuesday rally in Carson City. It now heads back to the state Senate, where lawmakers will have to concur on a minor amendment before sending the bill to Gov. Steve Sisolak.

SB 179 would repeal existing prohibitions on self-induced abortions and drugs that cause a miscarriage.

The bill also strikes a requirement that makes doctors explain “the physical and emotional implications” of an abortion. If passed, doctors would be allowed to simply “describe the nature and consequences of the procedure” in a patient-signed consent form. They would no longer have to record the age of the patient seeking the procedure.

- 2 aunts (no uncles)
- 3 sisters (no brothers)
- 4 daughters (one adopted son)
- 8 grand-daughers (one grandson)

I'd far prefer that women took the reins (and reigns) since they seem to understand how a good/just society should operate.

Perhaps uncooperative males could go the way of beef cattle....

It's very clear to most women that men do not represent our interests at all and are actually outright hostile to them. They have really kicked the hornet's nest this time.

Banning abortion is a wildly unpopular notion, though you might not know that from media reporting on the issue. Some politicians have decided that outright alienating three-fourths of the population isn't a good strategy for re-election.

If you're a doctor in one of these new Republics of Gilead, are you really going to be eager to treat a woman of child-bearing age if there's the least possibility she might be pregnant and not know it? You want to chance going to prison for 99 years? It's time for the backlash.

Look for more progressive legislation coming out of Nevada in the future.

Democrats in Nevada have considerable power. Democrats in Georgia, Ohio, Alabama, Iowa don't. Supporting and voting for the democrat instead of throwing a fit because our preferred nominee didn't win works out best for all of us.
