US Wall Funding of $1.57 Billion Yields 1.7 Miles Of Fence (*$920 million per mile)

*$920 million per mile

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has put up just 1.7 miles of fencing with the $1.57 billion that Congress appropriated last year for President Donald Trumpís wall along the Mexican border, a federal judge was told.

A lawyer for the U.S. House of Representatives provided the information Tuesday to the judge in Oakland, California, who is weighing requests from 20 state attorneys general and the the Sierra Club to block Trump from using funds not authorized by Congress to build the wall.

"The administration recently provided updated information to Congress on the status of its efforts as of April 30, 2019," the attorney, Douglas Letter, said in a court filing. "Based on that updated information, it appears that CBP has now constructed 1.7 miles of fencing with its fiscal year 2018 funding."

That was 3/4 of a mile more than the administration reported at the end of February, Letter said.

3. "It's so hard to finf good fencing nowadays!"

Still, $1.57 billion for 1.7 miles looks a lot like $923 million a mile

I'd be willing to install fence for only half of that

4. Trump is not getting much for all our tax money.

At the rate he's blowing through cash, it would likely be cheaper, and he'd probably get more bang for the buck, if he'd just hand everyone who shows up at the border a bag of money and a 1st class ticket home.

15. Almost 1 billion dollars per mile? We'll need another $2 trillion.

Since Mexico is paying for it, let's ask them to build it more cheaply. They can't possibly be any more corrupt than Dotard & Associates.

18. I know *I* feel a lot safer now!

Except maybe from the people who walk up to the fence, see that it's under two miles long, and just walk around it. If I thought Comrade Fishlips could read, I'd suggest he look up "Maginot Line" on the Google Machine.

19. Misleading numbers, they are still building more of the fucking thing

It's not over and they are still building and finishing a lot more if it. They haven't spent much of the $1.5 billion yet.

Don't feel satisfied and let it go, keep fighting and delaying. The money isn't spent and the shit isn't built yet, it can still be stopped.

21. An obscene waste of money.

I guess the people who are pleased with this are incapable of imagining walking 1.7 miles to get around something? They certainly are incapable of doing math or understanding that immigrants aren't the problem.
