The only problem is most Americans don't use postage stamps, or send many letters.
I use less than 10 stamps per year, if that.

I was going to pay the electric bill by credit card to avoid stamps but there is a charge of $1.65 to use the credit card.

Negative on that...

I pay the bill several months ahead to not bother each month and saving the extra stamps is more savings than the money would earn in the bank.

... directly from my bank account to the electric, gas, water, cable, bank, and mortgage companies. I rarely write checks any more, unless it's for a donation or something.

By the way the electronic transfer isn't the same thing as paying by credit card. It's more like an e-check that cannot get lost or delayed in the mail. There's no additional charge to use this type of payment. My bank is PNC Bank, and I'm sure the other major US banks are all offering the same service these days. For anyone who looks into this, I suggest that you avoid making electronic transfer payments by cellphone, because if you ever lost your phone, your info and passwords would also be lost. Much safer doing this type of banking on a secure desktop computer that never leaves your house.
