CNN)When most bartenders shake up margaritas, the bars don't usually erupt in cheers -- but most bartenders aren't Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
The New York Democrat -- and former bartender -- waited tables Friday afternoon to raise awareness for Democrats' fight to increase the national minimum wage to $15 an hour.

Ocasio-Cortez is a cosponsor of the Raise the Wage Act, which would bump the federal minimum hourly wage to $15 for all workers -- up from the current $7.25 hourly rate, which hasn't been raised since 2009.
Speaking to the crowd, Ocasio-Cortez described both the opportunities and difficulties posed by the restaurant industry, drawing from her own experience.

(22,252 posts)When he is in the district, he has a project called "Marc Does Business". He arranges to work at a business in his district doing whatever kind of job they give him. This is his most recent one https://www.facebook.com/CongressmanMarcVeasey/ You may have to scroll down the FB page but he is ticket checking on our new commuter rail system.
He has spent the day on a UPS route, been a luggage handler at Amerian Airlines (DFW airport, baked cakes, cleaned hotel rooms, served students in an elementary school cafeteria, worked in a burger joint, driven a route for one of the large food wholesalers in our area, done various factory jobs, and more. Can you imagine opening the door to UPS and your COngressman is standing there!
It's a long list since he is starting his 4th term in the House.
I posted this link on his facebook page - I know he will get a kick out of it.
I personally think every single member of Congress - Senate and House should do something like this when they are at home.
