at his office . No manifesto or history of violence a lot of “ didn’t s” with this guy who did not fit “profiles” of who would do these horrific murders

Although he was divorced and seemed a loner except for his ex wife but he was not described as a troubled person

Something snapped at some point or bitterness was building up feeling maybe ill-treated by society, or coworkers IMO

Yes he legally bought multiple firearms over the years and what do we have in our face in the US all the time as one solution to problems ?

Guns - not all go there -but if someone wants to use them it’s always an available solution especially if one already owns them

I thought of that old movie Falling Down -he was that kind of white collar guy and in the movie already down about his employment and divorce but all it took was for his car to break down to snap , get violent and then eventually go on a shooting spree

By the way that movie Falling Down stayed with me - people snap. Sadly the guns are way too accessible.

I'm tired of jumping to conclusions, and I'm sort of a laggard when it comes to those catapults of faith.

Scenario 1:

He schemed and plotted, buying guns and stockpiling ammo, scoping out his route and who'd be where when, so that he could quit and then come back and kill as many as possible.

Of course, that leaves unanswered the question as to why he bothered to quit? To make the paperwork easier on the survivors, because terminating an employee is a hassle?

Scenario 2:

He was pissed off, ruminated over his grievances (real or perceived, what's perceived was real enough to him). He quit.

Quitting wasn't enough, he ruminated and dwelt on his grievance, nurturing them like delicate orchids, until he finally realized he had one course of action: Mass murder. That would show them, and he'd laugh over their bloodied corpses. Except that like suicides, mass murders often forget that among the last blood spilled is their own.

Of course, that leaves unanswered the question as to whether he just happened to have the guns sitting around for the using.

Scenario 3:

He was pissed off and ruminating, plotting according to scenario I, but then decided to give his employer one last chance to be virtuous and do what he, obviously the superior person, wanted.

That didn't happen. So he quit, and the rest follows scenario 2. However in this case there was an exit. However, Mr. Imperious had to have things his own way because he was obviously (to him, at least, and probably friends/family/supporters/internet community of choice) completely correct. Until things went wobbly and pear shaped.

I'd note that my father bought a handgun (after background check, waiting period, etc.) one fine January day. He delayed two months in using it against himself. To this day I wonder if he was bought it for himself or his tormentor. Or just because he'd said that they'd gotten older, the neighborhood wasn't quite as safe, and he might get a handgun to keep in the house; after all, his son-in-law had numerous guns, could train him in safety, and his experience over 40 years was that they were safe.

I too will wait. How sad was that? Guns kill - they are designed to kill. We have to deal with the guns.
