I had a feeling that behind the scenes and on the down low that perhaps the Dems had off the record talks with our allies around the world like - "don't fret about Trump and the stupid way he is treating you (our allies) because we'll handle Trump and when he's gone from office we'll undo the damage he's done in the world."
Now as I sit back and see the struggle the Dems are going through just to decide whether or not they should move to impeach this guy - that our allies are losing respect for the Dems as well and are realizing that they are weak, indecisive and maybe just maybe - they won't be able to undo the Trump damage.
The longer the Dems stay wishy-washy regarding impeachment and how to handle Trump - the weaker they will be perceived by our allies and the harder it will be for our allies to trust - even the Dems going forward.
Trump has done immeasurable damage to the U.S. and our relationships with our allies. Now I fear that the damage will even go beyond Trump and the Repugs and will have a carry over effect on the Dems.

(34,095 posts)I wrote something like that a few days ago, probably not nearly as well. We cannot allow our country to lose anymore credibility. We do not need huge respect, not any more than any other country that works for the good of their people, but we need to do that for our people and to restore what little is left of our credibility and it is not going to be long before that is not possible, in may not be now. Agree with impeachment or not there is little left that we can do to move this out of the realm of abject dismissal as a country to partner, trade and rely on.

(18,486 posts)they'll look just as weak (if not weaker) if they vote to open an inquiry before they have enough votes or if they impeach him and he's not removed.

(1,480 posts)is that 1. we will never get a Senate conviction; 2. opening the process will bring more Trump crimes to light; 3. getting these crimes in front of the people is essential to engaging Democratic voters (and might flip a few people on the fence).
I agree with Pelosi that we need an ironclad case. I'm willing to let the House gather the evidence. But let's not let that evidence go to waste.
That would be weak.
My first plus! Thanks.

(10,565 posts)Basing your approach on something that might not happen is too risky. Bring them to light then impeach. Im with Nancy

(1,480 posts)I meant exactly that: gather the evidence, then impeach.
