Trump Claims U.K. Is Biggest Trade Partner for U.S.

June 4, 2019 at 9:17 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

President Trump said in his meeting with British Prime Minister Theresa May that the U.K. is the Unites States’ biggest trade partner, a fact that “many people may not know,” CNN reports.

That’s because it is not true: China is actually the largest U.S. trade partner. Britain is number seven.

Either one is unacceptable.

His lying and ignorance is alarming.

Remarks by President Trump and Prime Minister May Before a Business Roundtable | London, United Kingdom
FOREIGN POLICY

Issued on: June 4, 2019
....

PRESIDENT TRUMP: Thank you very much, Prime Minister. I appreciate it. I very much appreciate the relationship we’ve had. It’s been outstanding. And I guess some people know that; some people don’t. But you and I know it. But it’s been, really, a very good relationship and I appreciate it very much.

We are your largest partner. You’re our largest partner. A lot of people don’t know that. I was surprised. I made that statement yesterday, and a lot of people said, “Gee, I didn’t know that.” But that’s the way it is. And there’s an opportunity — I think a great opportunity — to greatly enlarge that, especially now, in light of what’s happening, to tremendously enlarge it and make it a much bigger trading relationship.

{snip the rest}

He even acknowledged that someone tried to correct him, but he stuck with the lie again today.

Although you probably mean well, I'm exhausted by the sycophants, the hangers-on, and the media courtiers trying to figure out "What Trump really meant" when he tells an out-and-out lie. Donald's a grown man, and he is responsible for whatever falls out of his mouth. He lied, he knows he lied, and he repeated the lie. He didn't "misspeak." He didn't "mean to say" something else. He didn't "get confused by the worms currently eating their way through his cerebellum." He lied.

some day someone needs to collect all the things he says right after the "many people may not know" line or its several variants and check those statements to see how close they are to 100% false.
