The Kennedys have long occupied the American political culture as the unofficial royal family. But on President Trump's visit to Britain, a different opportunity seemed to present itself: his family as the American answer to British royalty https://t.co/95LfnG7QEq

Snip from article-Whether they had official roles in the visit or not, the extended Trump family seemed to materialize in London overnight all save the presidents youngest son, Barron, who stayed home. But Mondays lavish audience with the British royals was the culmination of more than a month of planning by White House officials who have grown accustomed to accommodating President Trumps children, whether that includes redrawing plans for a state visit or evicting guests from their seats at the State of the Union address.
snip--this visit, another family opportunity surfaced: The Kennedys have long occupied the American political culture as the unofficial royal family, but this week, the Trumps appeared to present themselves as the 2019 version.

Hes surrounding himself with his family in this kind of certainly royal family, prince-and-princesses way, Gwenda Blair, the author of The Trumps: Three Generations That Built an Empire, said in an interview. Just as traditionally crowned heads surrounded themselves with their progeny, he has surrounded himself with his progeny.
snip--Privately, White House officials say that some of the Trump children, particularly those working in the White House, see themselves this way. One senior official, who did not want to speak publicly about internal planning, said that Mr. Kushner and Ms. Trump in particular had grown more emboldened with their requests to be accommodated at official events.
snip--For Mr. Trumps children, the Buckingham Palace visit was the highest-profile example of a change in presidential plans made to include them, but it was not the only one.

(82,849 posts)Is that wise or advisable? What if the Black Prince were to take advantage of the royal family's absence and march on Washington?

(63,221 posts)"If the Trump children want America and the world to see them as 'royalty' or a 'dynasty' then they are truly even more deluded than previously thought.
If the Trump family used this trip and banquet with Her Majesty as a 'branding' exercise to increase their global business ambitions then they are also blind to their crass class. Money does not buy true class, style or substance. The huge gold Trump lettering littering the world gets increasingly tawdry as their antics increase.
Not one Trump shines as an intelligent and thoughtful leader in business or politics or 'society'.
Their pathetic attachment to Daddy Donald serves their grifting ways to enrich themselves only. There is no service to or for country. Just give the family Trump more please!! More money, more likes on social media, more photos.
The Trump family once again uses taxpayer money to push their vacuous personal desires upon the world while their leader Daddy does more to destroy their 'brand' every day than they are aware.
When Daddy goes so will they. They just don't realize it yet."

This is not going to go well for Maggie, she earned alot of grief last week for a suck up article. There were at least 4 male NYT writers defending her as professional.

(15,682 posts)I will add, the only time I ever saw/heard her being interviewed she sounded like a spoiled and privileged brat who was accustomed to getting her way. Kind of like the maggot's daughter wife.

snip--"The media elite furrowed their brows, thought long and hard, and concluded that we are all idiots who don't know how lucky we are to have regular access to access journalism.
snip--Michael Shear and Jonathan Martin are both Haberman's colleagues at the Times. They also sound like our mother on leftovers night: "Stop complaining! You're lucky to get any news at all. Now sit down and finish your sloppy journalism."
Haberman's defenders like to point out what an important role she plays. As the saying goes, "with great power, comes great responsibility," and it's irresponsible to cover the ongoing corruption of the Trump administration as if you're writing celebrity puff pieces for Vanity Fair."
