Former GOP Rep Urges Nancy Pelosi To Give A Primetime Address Making The Case For Impeachment

This seems like a good idea, if she can do it.

Former Republican congressman David Jolly said on Tuesday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should deliver a primetime address to the nation making the case for impeachment.

While the former GOP lawmaker said he understands that the public isn’t fully there on moving toward impeachment, he said it is up to Pelosi to make the case.

“Imagine if Nancy Pelosi tomorrow asked to address the nation in primetime at 9:00 P.M.,” Jolly said. “Nancy Pelosi can move the needle for the American people.”

I can just imagine her reaction to his idea - probably something like, "OMG - go on television?! Why, I never THOUGHT of THAT!"

Now, how about giving some instructions to his Republican former colleagues - something I have yet to see him do.

-- at a minimum one dozen GOP current members of Congress and two dozen GOP former members of Congress -- show up to the taping of this primetime address, and tape their own "I'm so-and-so, a Republican from such-and-such district who served in Congress for so-many years... and I have seen the statement Speaker Pelosi will be giving tonight and I endorse it completely, fully, entirely, without reservation or exception" to be aired both before and after her address and that they stand behind her when she gives the address.

I want to see if these people are serious about wanting to get rid of Trump even if they have to pay a price for it themselves, or if they just think they can goad Pelosi into a strategic error.

and betrayal and only speaking for what's right when they're completely out.

I've often thought that many Republicans have always secretly, unknowingly depended on us to protect them from themselves, from going too far. We're certainly the big reason that for several decades they got away with electing people who threatened their own wellbeing without getting too hurt. And then that was no longer the case.

should contact the GOP controlled Senate and their voters. That would help their cause more than screaming for Pelosi to bail them out.

are for wait and see then decide on impeachment. BUT any side of any argument will use it too.

I just like the idea of calling a prime time news conference for a platform to announce an important decision. Just like the old days when you were watching TV and they broke in with that true "breaking news bulletin" and the whole country held it's breath for a moment...it was very effective.

But eventually, as house speaker she would preside over the process leading to the vote to impeach, and as speaker in an otherwise minority party she is also the default head of the Democratic Party.

As for mansplaining, at least he doesn't suggest she use pom-poms to rouse people to responsibility. More facing up to Trump's high and low crimes and misdemeanors will get us there. The growing harm he's doing to so many people, and obvious betrayals, are very helpful also.
