The ball is in Barr's court now.

Nadler rejects DOJ offer on Barr contempt vote

https://thehill.com/policy/national-security/446977-doj-says-it-will-resume-talks-with-judiciary-panel-if-house-delays

By Morgan Chalfant - 06/04/19 06:18 PM EDT

House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) is dismissing a bid from the Justice Department to renew negotiations with his panel if the lower chamber cancels a vote to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt next week.

In a letter to Attorney General William Barr Tuesday evening, Nadler urged the Justice Department “to return to the accommodation process without conditions” and said the House was not moving prematurely to punish Barr for failing to comply with the committee’s demands.

“The pace with which we are proceeding is consistent with the exceptional urgency of this matter: an attack on our elections that was welcomed by our President and benefited his campaign, followed by acts of obstruction by the President designed to interfere with the investigation of that attack,” Nadler wrote.

In a letter to Nadler earlier Tuesday, Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd wrote that the Justice Department is “prepared to resume negotiations” with the committee on a narrowed request for special counsel Robert Mueller’s materials “provided that the Committee takes reasonable steps to restore the status quo ante by mooting its May 8 vote and removing any threat of an imminent vote by the House of Representatives to hold the Attorney General in contempt.”

....................................................................

Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) postponed a vote to enforce that subpoena last month, after the department agreed to begin producing some of the intelligence documents sought by the committee. The agreement did not cover the committee’s demands for the full Mueller report....

Good for Nadler. There's no reason they shouldn't get the entire report and supporting evidence. Vinca Jun 2019 #6

Monday John Dean will testify as an expert witness on Impeachment of Nixon, lessons learned, etc.

Tuesday the full House is supposed to vote on MULTIPLE contempt of Congress charges of the MULTIPLE people who, like Barr, refused to show up for hearings.
This whole chamber vote is the result of the various Committees who first voted for contempt charges,
ie the Committees that subpoenaed people who refused to show..

So for the last few weeks while some frustrated Dems were loudly complaining about the House's failure to "do anything", they were in fact following proscribed legal procedures to address the contempt issues.
It is quite telling that Barr was trying to negotiate with Nadler to get the comtempt charges withdrawn by promising to turn over :some: of the info. Nadler wanted.
Nadler said thanks but no thanks.
Now Barr faces a full public contempt hearing on Tuesday PLUS Judge Sullivan is deciding how to bust him for contempt of court.

When Trump heard that the House wanted to subpoena his financial records from Deutche bank, he filed suit to stop them. Suit still on going, eating up time.
What Trump did not know, was the House also subpoenaed 2 other banks, who turned over the requested info.
Trump could not try to stop them from doing it, because he did not know about it.

there are processes being put into place that he does not know about.
House members are being publicly vague on impeachment because they want to keep specifics quiet, for obvious reasons.

My only problem is . . . so what? They find him in contempt and so what? Normally it would then be sent to the Department of Justice for prosecution, but clearly the DOJ won't even slit open the envelope it arrives in. They can go to the federal courts, of course, but the last time that was done the case took 4 years. I'm wondering if another avenue might be filing complaints with state licensing agencies. If a law license is suspended or revoked, you can't practice law. Anyone who defies a subpoena and is licensed to practice law should have their careers on the line.
