General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI turned on my TV this morning and was appalled at all the praise for Trump's
"great speech" at the 75th anniversary of D-Day. I give him credit for NOTHING!
He lies as often as he breathes. Why would anyone credit his remarks---OBVIOUSLY not written by him---with the slightest bit of sincerity? How can anything that spews from this creature's foul mouth be deemed genuine?
He didn't call anyone a "motherfucker" and he did not grope Mrs. Macron in public so, by his standards, he "done good". But, please---spare me the "great speech" bullshit!

(53,410 posts)he pauses in all the wrong places as if there were commas there. I think he just reads one line and pauses before reading the next line. The result is I never hear the speech. I only hear his inappropriate pauses.

(48 posts)Talked to a couple at the bar yesterday afternoon.
Didn't take much for the old git to start talking about "The Mexicans."
We started talking about Texas (RFD tv was on) and he once lived in El Paso a long time ago. Next words: "But it CHANGED." Ominous emphasis on CHANGED.
Praises Latinos but says people have to do it LEGALLY. I told him they are refugees seeking asylum, escaping a humanitarian crisis the US has been working on since the Monroe Doctrine.
Lets me know that Obama apologized too much. I told him Obama didn't apologize enough. That America has much to be ashamed of that's worthy of criticism, that America has yet to make amends.
Get to talking more and it switches to Trump and he lets me know that the "Fake News" doesn't talk about all the good things Trump has done.
I asked him: "Name one specific good thing Trump has done?"
It got louder, but I kept repeating the question.
The geezer huffed and puffed and switched chairs to the other side of his wife and sat with his back turned to me.
They slurped their beer down and left.
Asshole.

(8,684 posts)I would like SOMEONE in the media to mention why those thousands of soldiers died on that beach. What they sacrificed their lives for. Freakin NAZIS!!! They are some of trump's biggest supporters. Right here. Very fine people. Tell me why we allow that shit to exist here, after so many died to end them. For him to give a speech about Normandy................kiss my veteran ass.

Such chances when Trump makes it all the way through a prepared speech without veering off into nasty ad libs don't come along often.

(15,805 posts)I heard nothing but blood and guts, war and carnage, death and destruction, the dead and dying. It was every bit as steeped in the same doom and gloom, apocalyptic prose as Trump's innauguration speech, American Carnage.
He relied on teleprompters so the only thing that could be said is that he managed to read the script without straying into self congratulatory lists of how great he is.

(811 posts)President Donald Trump met the moment, perfectly, with words that summoned poetry from their simplicity.
Turning from a crowd gathered among graves of Americans cut down in Normandy, he gazed into aged faces of their peers who lived and who never forgot the horror of the beaches below. He led a standing ovation to men, many of whom can no longer stand themselves, who had again crossed the ocean -- as they did three-quarters of a century ago on a mission to save liberty.

(23,065 posts)I won't watch again until Nicole Wallace's show, I can usually count on her for the truth and no fevered bullshit about him rising to the moment. He didn't. BFD - he managed to rehearse enough that he could read his speech without slurring, stumbling or going off topic about himself. OH, his speech writers wrote a nice sentence - OMG that anyone should even remark on this just shows what a shitgibbon he truly is. He defecated al over himself, our country, Britain and the monarchy for 2 days and now he acts 1/2 way human and they're impressed - what fucking low standards and what utter stinking garbage!!!!

(15,139 posts)tax cuts from the ocean view of their vacation homes must think the public is entirely made up of rubes who eagerly down whatever shit is fed them. Other than the ignorant cadre of FAUX "News" addicts, Americans are well aware that Trump is an embarrassing boob who can barely read whatever script is handed to him. He has the audacity to drag his entire grifting clan to meet the queen on the taxpayer dime, then manages not to insult Bette Midler in front of elderly WWII vets (though he was sorely tempted), and that is somehow praiseworthy? Even for the corporate whores, who deserve every bit of ridicule, this is a new low. "Eloquent?" Andrea Mitchell has nothing on Pinocchio.

(3,922 posts)The media shamelessly praises a drug-addled bigot reading a statement as if the Con is Churchill reincarnate.
Forget about the grabbing, forget about the children in cages, forget about the destructive tariffs, and mostly, forget about the fact that the Con is really a foreign agent of a hostile country, wittingly or not - the very embodiment of the evil that the troops on WW2 fought to overcome.
Today was a disgraceful day for the media.

(10,885 posts)BTW, did I really hear on CNN that drumpf was late to the services today because he was giving an interview to Faux News before the scheduled events? Really??? Then, later, when the drumpfs and the Macrons were waiting for the flyovers, the announcer commented that timing was a bit off because of drumpf's lateness. Thank heavens there was no aerial confusion.

Everything he has done up to this point has been a disaster (including the interview that made the D-Day speeches start late!) and everything he will do beyond this point will be a disaster.
I have no problems patting him on the head and saying "thank-you, you didn't piss your pants at daycare one of the times you could have today."
