Measure Of Public Mood Is 'Most Liberal Ever Recorded,' Political Scientist Says

The U.S. public’s vision for the government’s size and scope is “the most liberal ever recorded” in the 68-year history of what’s known as the Public Policy Mood estimate, the estimate’s creator James Stimson announced Wednesday.

“The annual estimate for 2018 is the most liberal ever recorded in the 68 year history of Mood, just slightly higher than the previous high point of 1961,” Stimson wrote to POLMETH, the mailing list of the Society for Political Methodology and the Political Methodology section of the American Political Science Association.

Stimson is a recently retired professor of political science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill who has long measured the public’s view of government by comparing survey responses from over the decades and, in essence, putting them into an algorithmic blender in order to compare the public mood at different times on a continuum from left to right.

Stimson wrote Wednesday that the shift represents “expected leftward movement” in response to Donald Trump’s presidency. He cautioned, however, that his estimates “do not include Trump’s signature issues of immigration restriction and trade protectionism.”

It's great to be on the right side of issues. It's still great to be on the right side of the issues even if you lose elections. But when the right side of the issues is also the majority sentiment among the people? Run with that! You don't need to shy away from being popular and correct. You don't need to cater to the uninformed whims of some mythical voter in East Bumblefuck. Run on the issues, run with the popularity of those issues, and let the mythical voters know that they'll benefit from your policies and programs, too.

Trump is a garbage person. Mitch McConnell is a garbage person. Lindsay Graham is a garbage person. Rand Paul is a garbage person. Charles Grassley is a garbage person. I could go on and on. These clowns should have been voted out decades ago. So why do they keep winning?

gerrymander like crazy. repubs did it down here in Ala, and moved all the voter registration places out of majority black rural areas.

ballot games.....hacking, losing ballots, sometimes not even counting them. Florida prime example.

If elections were fair, and not hacked by foreign countries, they would lost bigly.

and they know it.

we expect government to do good things for us with our tax dollars. The people at the top have certainly had that going for them for the last almost 40 years. You don't buy a system and come up holding the short end of the stick. They poison half the people against government, all the while making sure they rake in our tax dollars.

Many at the top are way in the black on our tax dollars. They rake in more than they ever pay out.
