1). MAJOR DEAL! Details to follow. (and he'll happily provide his tax returns as soon as his audit is finished).
2). MAGAts and bots are rapid-firing "Art of the Deal' in response to his tweet.
3). Anyone here with even minimal experience in sales knows that a bad / inexperienced salesperson will keep whittling down the "deal" in order to close the sale.
Drop the price, add incentives, cave. An seasoned / experienced salesperson does their homework, sizes up their prospects, knows before the first conversation takes place that they need what is being offered and they can afford it. Yes, there are excuses and dodges along the way, and an experienced salesperson knows how to deal with them.
Yes, Mexico would be hurt by the tariffs. But they also have access to the same analysis / data that we do, so they know that the U.S. would be hurt by them as well. So it's not a matter of Mexico stepping up to the "bargaining table" and Trump is holding all the cards.
The critical aspect of this is that they signed a deal, and we have no idea what that deal was. Trump is promoting it as something that will "reduce, or even eliminate illegal immigration." In reality, it could simply be one more shiny object to wave in front of the MAGAts, of the same magnitude as getting a free toaster for opening a checking account at the local small-town bank.

(18,837 posts)...they literally could have signed "anything."
I seriously doubt that they made a major, iron-clad commitment to aid Trump in his pursuit of a second term.
Also, who's going to measure the "success" of this "deal?" There is no consistent, daily number of people crossing the border.
If 10 people attempt to cross on Monday and 5 cross on Friday, he can trumpet that as a 50% reduction, all immediately attributable to his "deal."
And that's exactly what he will do.

(18,837 posts)"We don't need it because we did something better." And he'll say that while standing under one of his "promises made, promises kept" banners.
He won't be held accountable for any "facts" surrounding that.
