Is it more liberal or more conservative than it was 10 or 20 years ago?

My feeling is that it is more liberal.

I would especially consider it more liberal when compared to the 50's, 70's, or 90's.

1. in what dimension of liberal?

social issues... yes progress on gay rights, social justice, less progress on racial issues but still progress
economic issues... more conservative than 50s or even the 70s, more liberal than the 90s
environmental... ? not sure
unions - workers rights... probably more conservative
