Hortensis
(58,785 posts)grave threat of further destruction and takeover to an authoritarian state, most likely fascist in nature given the fast-increasing fascistic behaviors on the right, and in the process to restore our national stability and wellbeing.

(6,246 posts)What is your number one issue beyond the win?
hlthe2b
(102,130 posts)provisions and protections, booting the destructive RW political "plants", restoring scientific data deleted from websites, restoring regulatory authority and consumer protections.
You want a single issue: restoring REAL, HONEST, WORKING Government.
Those who think one can simply say, Environment, Global warming, Abortion, Jobs, or any other "single issue" are missing the point. The top priority is both booting Trump AND THE RW in Congress, then working quickly to restore our governmental institutions. EVERYTHING stems from there and NOTHING can be accomplished without the former.

(2,343 posts)millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share of taxes AND a complete rework of the power grid to transfer completely to green energy.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)Nancy Pelosi agrees. This is Nancy quoting Justice Louis Brandeis at her swearing in:
On transforming that power grid, we probably should also make it sustainable defense-wise so whole regions and big cities can't be taken down and kept down by one attack. Cyber is a wonderfully flexible WMD that makes nuclear bombs mostly obsolete.

(14,118 posts)fair elections, free from the corrupt practices that have led to where we are now. Without fair and free elections we're stuck with whatever the corrupt Reich Wing decides to put over on us.
Without fair elections we will never have action on climate change, women's healthcare including abortions, millionaires and billionaires paying their fair taxes and that includes corporations.

Homelessness is a huge issue and must be addressed. A friend of mine just yesterday was talking about it, Los Angeles and elsewhere.

(291 posts)Healthcare, I suffered a stroke/brain aneurysm on 2/12/2019 and am in recovery. Short term disability insurance will not pay out funds because I do not have an available return to work date. Dr. states I am permanently disabled but they are saying he needs to be more specific with prognosis. HTF can some lackey in an insurance company contest the findings of a Neurologist????
This has become a total nightmare.

(291 posts)Hopefully things will work out, now without health insurance (was let go by employer after 3 months of Short Term Disability and COBRA rates are absurd) my weekly blood testing is on hold so my blood thinner medication is all messed up. Very depressing and frustrating.

(53,410 posts)Because even if we start doing something about it right now it will take a lot of time to first stop and then reverse the destruction of climate change. There will be an upheaval of refugees that will be worldwide and devastating to modern civilization. Even in the wealthiest of countries. Wars will be started over water and food. Nothing we think is important now will will stay the same.

(16,646 posts)We've eroded the middle class to a serious point in this country. We need to rebuild unions, defend workers in general, and have trade and global policies that will bring safety and security to the middle class.

Any Democrat in the field will get those babies out of cages -- and the climate refugees out og concentration camps.
But you know what else? As long as Mitch McConnell is running the Senate, any Democrat in the field is going to be hard-pressed to pass legislation, however high the priority.
Get rid of Trump. Get rid of McConnell. Keep the House. Get the Senate back. Because without that -- we got nuttin'

(42,738 posts)When you are in that situation it is easy to lose hope. Many people have contempt for people who look shabby. They are harrassed by law enforcement. They don't always know where their next meal or shower is coming from. Heaven help you if you need health care. It's bad enough for an individual but some times families with young children find themselves suddenly out on the street. Like has been said before, many people are one paycheck away from homelessness.

(1,233 posts)The erosion of standards in the primary grades and rise of college as an industry have resulted in a populace that lacks the ability to think critically.
Unless and until this improves, we are doomed to continuously put out the flames fanned by those that can manipulate this weakness to their advantage.
Smart people choose smart leaders, and make smart choices. Education is the solution to almost everything.
