.
Well, Scotty Kilmer predicted Trump would do something to placate corn farmers.
In the video below, he talks about how Ethanol affects cars, and that most vehicles run poorly with over 10% ethanol blended into the gasoline. Ethanol acts as an octane booster (slowing the volatile firing of the gasoline), but unless you are running a FlexFuel vehicle, which can use upwards of 85% ethanol, you car will run like shit and you might take it to a mechanic and spend hundreds or thousands in unwarranted repairs. On top of that, since ethanol contains 20% less energy than gasoline per volume, your gas mileage will decrease by another 2.5% by moving from e10 to e15.

(494 posts)Tearing up the rubber lines, gaskets, plastic bits in your fuel system, as well as rusting the inside of the gas tank (as it contains a fair amount of water),you also lose about 10 percent of your fuel mileage because it takes more ethanol to make the same amount of power out of your engine.
If you can find a gas station that sells fuel for outboard boat motors buy that...its 100 percent gasoline, a bit more expensive but your power and driveability comes back and your fuel system will Thank You tremendously.
This is especially important if what you drive is 2004 or older!!

This is going to jam a lot of people who drive older cars.

(11,396 posts)The nozzle may not fit and I think it illegal to use it in vehicles. You have to go to the station and fill some 5-gallon cans and add it to your tank at home. We use it in our racing motorcycles.

(11,949 posts)I use only ethanol free in my boat and half the time I put it into my truck. If we go to E15 non-ethanol is all I will use.
Florida changed it Law a few years ago allowing real gas in vehicles. And the nozzles are the same. It diesel that is different.

(31,949 posts)But Trump? What candidate in Iowa right now is attacking ethanol? Which one? Any?

But that's what I get for guessing. Zero for three this morning. Not bad in the minors.

(5,914 posts)I am waiting for him to directly weigh in on this subject. He rips on ethanol all the time.

(6,261 posts)I agree: ethanol sucks and it barely (if at all) breaks even as corn is such a lousy crop to use for fuel.

(4,448 posts)Then increased in 2006 and again 2013.
Right now most stations are at 10%. A few are at 15% (but labelled). It's REALLY HARD to find 0%, and it costs quite a bit more.
I had hoped that Obama would have pulled back on this craziness, but it never did get much attention.
Sad to hear that Trump is jumping on this bandwagon now too.

(11,949 posts)With all the boats 0% ethanol is easy to find. Lots of people, including me run it in our vehicles.

(11,949 posts)The legislature made it illegal but never enacted a single penalty. So it really was not Illegal.
Now a nonissue.
If E15 becomes the norm I see a great increase in E0 gas coming.

Cut all government assistance to zero for them.

(36,744 posts)a lot of the crooked station owners will buy E15 and use it on the E10 regular gas pumps. Just to make a buck then they will lie when confronted.
Dave Starsky
(5,914 posts)You honestly have to know where you can buy gas for your car, because all of the other stations will rip you off.
A handy rule of thumb if you are a traveller in the US southwest: Never buy gas in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Fill up in Las Cruces or Albuquerque, depending on which way you're going.
There's a simple kit available on Amazon that will show you how much ethanol you have in your gas tank. Unless you have a "flexfuel" vehicle, that percentage should be at or less than or equal to ten percent. If there's more than that, it can create numerous problems.

(11,949 posts)He loves Ethanol. Keeps him in business.
It make vehicles run poorly. But it damaged boat fuel systems.

The new gas will kill them.
It will also kill 2 cycle weed whackers & blowers(killing blowers is not so bad).
This is trump buying votes in the cornbelt.
