Trump Just Invited Impeachment Proceedings
June 12, 2019 at 10:14 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard

George Conway and Neil Katyal: “Much ink has been spilled about whether President Trump committed a criminal and impeachable offense by obstructing justice. That question deserves extensive debate, but another critical question — the ultimate question, really — is not whether he committed a crime but whether he is even fit for office in the first place. And that question — the heart of an impeachment inquiry — turns upon whether the president abuses his power and demonstrates an unfitness to serve under the defining principles of our Constitution.”

“On Tuesday, Trump gave us direct evidence of his contempt toward the most foundational precept of our democracy — that no person, not even the president, is above the law. He filed a brief in the nation’s second-most-important court that takes the position that Congress cannot investigate the president, except possibly in impeachment proceedings. It’s a spectacularly anti-constitutional brief, and anyone who harbors such attitudes toward our Constitution’s architecture is not fit for office. Trump’s brief is nothing if not an invitation to commencing impeachment proceedings that, for reasons set out in the Mueller report, should have already commenced.”

"The idea that only the president can investigate the president is an argument for autocrats, not Americans."

"Every principle behind the rule of law requires the commencement of a process now to make this president a former one."

How much affect does Impeachment really have? At this point it's merely for show.

Because no one is stopping the most unethical, ignorant mobster president in history. People like the Koch Bros, the Waltons, Zuckerberg and other of your pet capitals, fascist that I dare not name, paid for him to represent THEM and in the process destroy our democracy. It's a win win for the capitalist kings who own most of America. Every single person who has a net worth above a billion, is responsible for the crimes of Trump. They are ALL in on it. The class warfare has been won with a orange buffoon and his sex worker.

But he should still be impeached. He has broken so many laws with impunity so far that it makes your head spin. Impeachment by the House says to voters and to future presidents that the law matters.

Impeachment hearings will bring out Trump’s unlawful behavior for the public. His diehard supporters will vote for him anyway in 2020. So look at the unimaginable—Trump wins again. Having survived House impeachment and being reelected, he will declare himself completely above the law and we will see even worse behavior. A second Trump term, especially with a Republican Senate that would do nothing to check him will send the country into a serious downward spiral from which I’m not sure we could recover.

To me, impeachment is the only way to get the public to pay attention to Trump’s crimes, especially independent voters who might cross over to voting for Democrats.

Impeachment is the strongest form of censure available and will make the facts public. Look at Nixon; 40 percentage point drop in his approval rating from before the impeachment investigation to his resignation. Admittedly, much of trump's base will turn a blind eye to the truth, but Impeachment must proceed! The constitution demands it.

What are Democrats thinking? There is so much proof to impeach this bastard, and all the other bastards as well...Barr must also be impeached, and the turtle.

I think a shaming campaign should begin by the DNC with names, all over the country, make these traitors shame themselves, they definitely provide enough material on a daily basis, why is it that its not happening?

yesterday about taking damaging info on election opponents from foreign sources, something that is against the law, he is looking more and more like the frog in the pot of water that is beginning to boil.

And contrary to much public opinion and speculation, IMO Nancy Pelosi is the one slowly turning the burner on the stove from low to medium and soon to high.

Unregulated capitalism is the pathway to fascism. This is historically provable.
