I'd have backed out of attending, but I'm taking my older cousin and this could be her last time seeing this branch of the family. (Long story, but she's know them her whole life, and I've only known them since last year.) I've already decided to just walk away from any contentious conversations.

The get together is at a place that doesn't serve alcohol. Fortunately my brother is coming along, and bringing a flask.

No doubt I will have some stories to share, when I return.

I pretty much figured out the dynamics and 'demographics' of this branch of the family. Most are, at most, high school graduates who went on to trade schools. Some are very insular, they don't have much of a world view, and have never ventured too far from mountains, where they were born. Nothing wrong with that, but it makes it very hard for someone like me to relate to anything other than discussing family history.
