Lawrence just reported on Kevin McCarthy saying Putin paid Trump! And Chris Hayes said it earlier.

Finally they are giving it air time. I have been waiting a long time for this. I could never understand why even people like Rachel didn't give it more attention. Now if they would just report the part of the tape where Paul Ryan said let's keep that in the family after McCarthy said he thought Putin was paying Trump.

“There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump,” McCarthy (R-Calif.) said, according to a recording of the June 15, 2016, exchange, which was listened to and verified by The Washington Post. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher is a Californian Republican known in Congress as a fervent defender of Putin and Russia.

House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) immediately interjected, stopping the conversation from further exploring McCarthy’s assertion, and swore the Republicans present to secrecy....

Some of the lawmakers laughed at McCarthy’s comment. Then McCarthy quickly added: “Swear to God.”

Ryan instructed his Republican lieutenants to keep the conversation private, saying: “No leaks. .?.?. This is how we know we’re a real family here.”

But then that seems to be the norm now that huge things barely get attention because there are so many.

I would for one. Couple reasons a) it was a sarcastic, back biting comment and was understood as such by the people present to hear it, and b) this is old, old news covered extensively in major media. There was never anything substantive about it. Just one R saying nasty things about another. There ARE big (and substantive) issues currently in play. Let's talk those up. But this is a waste of time.

Oh, and before the harpies are unleashed .. does this mean that I DON'T think that Trump is, and has been, awash in dirty money for ages? OF COURSE NOT! But there is no evidence whatsoever here in this off the cuff statement by McCarthy. That is all.

that you seem to play devil's advocate a lot regarding trump-Russia and surrounding
questionable behavior.

Am I just imagining this? I apologize if that's the case. I am curious, though.

That in the face of demonstrable criminality by Trump and his crew, there always seem to be those who seem intent on misleading people with tangential crap, like McCarthy’s comment.

We have a president who, just yesterday, openly invited foreign interference in the election. But, no, let’s focus on a speculative comment McCarthy made years ago.

If you think “trolls are people I disagree with” then you don’t understand how misinformation and misdirection works.

I’ve also noticed that people who hide behind pseudonyms make a lot of accusations against people who don’t.

Perhaps you also noticed, for example, that I was highly critical of Michael Avenatti, and took a lot of shit from people like you about it, questioning my motives. Where did all his promoters go?

I'll tell you what, Control-Z, how about you show me YOUR posts from 2014 warning about Russian-backed and funded influencers and trolls. Here's one of mine:

Go ahead, I'll wait for yours. Don't have any? Why not? Were you fawning over Assange with the rest of them, simply because he made noises you were inclined to agree with?

But, go ahead, show me your earliest post warning about Russian backed trolls.

Another thing you'll notice if you pay attention long enough is the same people promoting bags of smoke:
